Right, let's kick this project off. For years I've secretly wanted to do a sci-fi project set in a near future with themes drawing from familiar classics like Deus Ex, Titanfall, Blade Runner and The Expanse. With my mate @goremaw we happened upon the @blkout_wargame rules one afternoon about a month ago, and it was like a lightbulb went off over our heads. Fast, tactical play, with the emphasis on smart positioning, insane firepower and TITANS! We found Titanfall on the tabletop, haha. Next up in Harlow’s small arms arsenal is the fast firing KRISS Vector! The KRISS Vector[4] is a series of weapons based upon the parent submachine gun design developed by the American company KRISS USA, formerly Transformational Defense Industries (TDI). They use an unconventional delayed blowback system combined with in-line design to reduce perceived recoil and muzzle climb, invented by French engineer Renaud Kerbrat. The Vector uses an articulated mechanism referred to as the "Kriss Super V", which allows the bolt and an inertia block to move downward into a recess behind the magazine well.[9] The theory is that at the end of this travel, the energy is transmitted downward rather than rearward, thus reducing the felt recoil. When fired, the barrel axis is in line with the shoulder as in the M16 rifle, but also in line with the shooter's hand. This is intended to reduce muzzle climb when combined with the off-axis bolt travel, though it also greatly raises the sight line in comparison to the bore axis. The initial prototype model by TDI achieved a rate of fire of 1,500 rounds per minute, though this was brought down to around 1,200 rounds per minute on the production models. Continuing with the Harlow weapons, let’s take a look at their very own support by fire solution, the M60-X. The M60-X features the design aesthetics of the standard M60. The M60, officially the Machine Gun, Caliber 7.62 mm, M60, is a family of American general-purpose machine guns firing 7.62×51mm NATO cartridges from a disintegrating belt of M13 links. There are several types of ammunition approved for use in the M60, including ball, tracer, and armor-piercing rounds. It was adopted in 1957 and issued to units beginning in 1959. It has served with every branch of the U.S. military and still serves with the armed forces of other states. Its manufacture and continued upgrade for military and commercial purchase continues into the 21st century, although it has been replaced or supplemented in most roles by other designs, most notably the M240 machine gun in U.S. service. On ABOL, the M60-X is fitted with an electromagnetic accelerator barrel and fed with caseless HE/DP flechettes for maximum power and suppression on the objective. This weapon was created to showcase hard sci fi technology combined with the African mercenary aesthetics of Harlow, as well as drawing inspiration from some of our favorite sci fi weapons as well. Equipment Check! Lets take a look at some of the real life weapon systems that inspire the weapon design in BLKOUT. In photos 1 and 2, we see a FAL OSW chassis with some extra modifications. During the Cold War the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), with the notable exception of the United States. It is one of the most widely used rifles in history, having been used by more than 90 countries. It received the title "the right arm of the free world" from its adoption by many self-proclaimed free world countries, chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO. These configurations sport extended magazines, a prismatic combat optic with an overhead red dot, lights, and lasers with IR capability.
