Not sure how to start this post... My dad came here alone 10 years ago on an impromptu trip and found his dad's hometown before he was brought to Malaysia with his dad and brother. He passed away when my dad was just 7. I never met him. . My dad was always interested in tracing his roots and when someone in China contacted us saying they're our relative, we were skeptical. Her mother was adopted by my great grandmother, and only told her daughter about it years before she passed. But she knew everything from my grandfather's name to my great grandparent's. So we decided to head to Dabu, China as a family to visit our ancestral hall and to pay our respects. . To see my dad's face when we arrived to the house that his father used to live in, and my uncle's expressions were just priceless. I've not seen them so close and happy together before. I knew right away that this trip was worth it. I asked my dad if this trip was different than the last, and he said this trip was definitely better because he had his brothers with him this time around. This trip, we were able to enter our ancestral hall and pay our respects, with our elders from the same family present. . It's very surreal to be in a place where everyone speaks the same language as my family. Never seen so many people speak hakka in one place. I felt so proud that I could understand a dying language. Am so happy we got to take this trip down to the village. Words can't describe how I felt to be in a place my ancestors used to live. And to see where my grandmother lived was a bonus because we didn't have any information about her family members. But when we told our guide her surname, he knew right away where her village and tribe was. Asked my dad if he was happy, he said yes.
