All finally working! First time ever a Race Technology Dash 2 Pro has been linked with an RT Live, connected to a Mk3 MX5 ECU via OBD. I know it’s the first time ever , because spent 5 hours debugging it on the phone with Race Technology as a sort of beta tester. Very helpful they were too. .. Means we have data logging, lap timing with predictive lap/time slip, shift lights, vital temps, etc on the dash... and can stream it live over 3G to the pits (or to the world over the internet). .. #dash2 #dash2pro mount with sun shade 😎 I wanted to make one of these since forever but just didn’t have the time! #lockdownlife allowed me that! I wanted to make something that mounts to the steering wheel cowling so I can see it right through the steering wheel and keep any eye on everything I need to! I inserted m4 brass fittings into the back of this so I can mount this to a carbon plate which will then go through my slotted cowling 🤙🏻🤙🏻 the sun shade was added to remove the potential glare with it sitting out exposed! Driving a car on circuit renders some factory designs absolutely useless, namely the fuel tank level. The only realistic way of tracking fuel level is monitoring the actual consumption, not a pair of floats swinging about inside the tank. With the #ecumaster EMU Black able to output a standardised CAN stream, my original idea was to calculate fuel consumption on the fly by means of combining RPM, injection PW, dead time and fuel pressure on a small MCU. This could then be sent back on to the bus for the Dash2 to recieve and display. In hindsight, as I was looking into the above, a new firmware version was relased for the EMU which intoducted a 'Fuel Used' packet in the CAN stream, in 0.01L increments, once the engine was running; meaning I no longer had to do the leg work 😂 In reality, this is all I need if I start the day with a full tank, and scroll through the dash when required to view how much was consumed in each session. During the 2019-20 rewire, I had added both sides of the tank independantly into the loom, terminating them at a spare 8 way connector near the ECU along with CAN, 12v and ground. I decided to make use of this instead to develop something that is able to show the current level in each side of the tank (more so for when it is parked up). After a couple of designs, a few orders with JLCPCB and a few revisions of code on the #teensy 3.2 later, I had functioning 0-100% fuel levels for each side of the tank broadcast over the bus for the dash to display. The levels will still be noisy whilst on circuit, even with some software filtering applied, but the intention was never for that.
