It probably wasn’t the most responsible choice to drive 12 hours for less than 24 at Fontana, but I had a great time and it was worth it. Autocross is amazing, but I don’t get to really open it up full throttle and rip like I can at the Tail of the Dragon. On my last run last night, just before arriving back at the lodge, the “bucking” issue I experienced earlier this year returned. The good news is, I’m feeling confident I know how to fix it for good this time. Having a bit of fun on the way, we made it to the Tail of the Dragon 🐉. However, just as we were about to leave Deals Gap & go attack the Dragon 🐲, the heater hose popped off the firewall of @danny_rado36 3.6VR6 Swapped MK7 GTI (and of course, the clip that secures it was nowhere to be found 🫠).
After asking around for a bit, 1 of the employees at Deals Gap called someone who brought a bunch of different sized cables/wires (from their home nearby AND on their day off 🙏). Which worked out perfectly as a way to secure the heater hose to the connection on the firewall. After using most of our remaining bottled water to refill the coolant system (+ refilling the coolant jug with the hose on the side of Deals Gap) & bleed the air out, we were finally ready to attack the Tail of the Dragon 🐉

It has been a LONG day. I burned 1 camera battery down. This is just what’s on the phone. I have not had time to even go through the SD card. We slayed the 11 miles & 329 curves of The Dragon, we had elk literally all over us and tried our damndest to stay 50ft+ away and it wasn’t happening. We also drove the full 32 miles of the Foothills parkway and managed to get is a short hike on a trail.
