We had the awesome pleasure of building and installing this knight and pedestal at our good friends at @lincolnwaycentral for their class gift. Made from styrofoam, wood, steel, and hardcoat, it's been faux finished to resemble aged bronze and limestone. Special thanks to @gabelapeer for carving this beast and @ecaenepeel for her precise build on the pedestal and steel. @expoartsllc has knocked it out of the park with the final installation of the @carmelchristkindlmarkt Schwibbogen photo op. Standing 18' tall and 30' wide, this custom Schwibbogen follows the traditional German style of decorative candle holders originating from Saxon, Germany. We loved working with ExpoArts on this project, as it was much different than what we normally do. Tons of man hours went into this project and it really paid off with a successful install. This was a fun one. We actually made this Call a Story for Indianapolis Public Library Lawrence Branch last year but thanks to pandemic it's been sitting in our shop collecting dust. We can finally show off a recent project we did for @txst for their Alumni Association! This is a one-of-a-kind TxSt class ring fountain that was used in their ring dipping ceremony. Made from styrofoam, hardcoat, and some specialty plumbing parts, we literally made it rain on these students newly acquired class rings. We have a love/ hate relationship with fiberglass. Cons: It's expensive, messy, and oh... so itchy. Pros: It's strong enough to literally be a boat, it's fairly easy to work with, and the satisfying color change of mixing the resin (see video). It may not be our favorite material, but when a job calls for fiberglass we're not afraid to get out hands dirty (and itchy!) We've been sitting on these progress photos of the big letters for @lwcentralknight because they just don't look as good in our shop as they do in their new permanent home. We loaded these dudes into a box truck and hauled them to New Lenox, IL to install these today in front of the Main Entrance of the high school. These juicy letters got about 6 coats of pantone 186C single stage automotive paint, and we couldn't be more proud with how they turned out. They've got to get uglier before they get pretty. These letters got their first coat of sandable primer, and hit with the air file which allows us to see the high and low spots. A little body filler, and little glazing putty and- BOOM- flat! These babies will be gleaming before too long. I have two things to say: 1. I'm not sure about these frames over the mirror. I wanted to display them and I also wanted to attempt to balance the height of the door frame with the shorter mirror. It's almost 6 feet tall but still feels dinky compared to the taller doors. They do help if you compare the before photos but...they aren't perfect for that space. 2. It's ok to make mistakes or try things that don't work out. It's ok to live with something temporarily even if you know it isn't right. It's ok to think something is right for awhile and then change your mind. Or, for that matter, it's ok to think something is wrong for awhile and then realize it actually works. Basically, it's ok. What do you think? Do these frames work here? Should I save up for a bigger mirror like I mentioned in yesterday's blog post?

Well, we successfully completed our inaugural hardcoat spray in the new shop. Ol' Gusmer really put in the work! The 2-part polyurea is pumped through a super heated hydraulic machine to perfectly merge in the tip of the gun, and create a fiberglass-like shell (without the itchiness!)
