A Carmargue Guardian driving his horses through the marsh. The natural skill of these guys and girls with their horses is awe inspiring - they become one with their steed. Favorite techniques and actions by @_mcastaneda_ for capturing compelling photography! “What I love most about photography is the chance to embrace new challenges and perspectives. Each trip offers opportunities for personal and professional growth, and through years of hosting workshops and doing photography full-time, I’ve discovered my favorite techniques that have helped me grow. Storytelling is at the heart of it all: 1) Thus, one of the keys is our ability to convey a narrative that captivates, entertains, educates, or inspires the viewer by inviting them into our world, or in this case, our photos. In my case, the story I tell in my images is the story of light vs dark. My muses for art are painters such as Thomas Kinkade and Albert Bierstadt. So I’m very much into lighting and how it illuminates the world it touches. 2) Storytelling in photography begins long before the editing process. You can practice planning easily by mapping out a photography journey, whether a travel adventure or something around your neighborhood. Create a list of shots you would like for this exercise. Think through, too, what lens, what light, or what time of day, what’s in the scene, and where. Then go out and execute. The more you do this, the easier it will become, and the better your shots will become. 3) On location, zooming in more and not shooting so wide is good advice. The world has a lot of detail, and you’d be surprised at how beautiful it can be without always seeing it from a wide angle. 4) Adding a subject to the scene for scale also helps. The subject should complement the scene, not be its focus. For example, compare images 1 and 2. 5) Tailor image preparation to suit the intended purpose is also key. For instance, when preparing images for print, I typically avoid including unfamiliar individuals as subjects, as most prefer wall decor without the appearance of strangers. However, having a human presence can enhance images intended for social media or commercial advertisements, adding depth and relatability to the visual narrative.” @luminar_global: Have you ever thought about the stories you want to tell with your photography? 📸⬇️

Eight pieces of advice by @jabisanz to infuse mood and style into your photographs! “Incorporating your connection to the landscape into your photos can result in a more powerful image, and editing plays an essential role in this pursuit. Here is a break-down of my post-processing workflow, with before and after examples taken in Iceland (compare the pictures in this series): 1) It has taken me years to develop my workflow and editing process, but now I have a step-by-step technique I follow. A structured workflow ensures that my editing process remains consistent across different photos. 2) I usually know how I want to process the photo from the moment I take it. Previsualizing the final image while shooting helps you define your artistic vision and intent. You can think about the mood, style, and message you want to convey through the photograph. 3) I always start with adjustments on the raw file. I shoot very dark since underexposure preserves brighter background detail and adds contrast. Thus, my first steps are to recover shadows and blacks and let the raw very flat. 4) Then, I work with adjustments such as blending, corrections, cloning, and warping to clean distracting elements. 5) I normally increase contrast for top-down shots and work a bit with colors in the raw file. Then, I recover some details with local adjustments and add some glow and atmosphere. Finally, I incorporate some vignettes to drive the viewer’s eye to the important part of the image. 6) I like taking pictures in various lighting situations, like stormy skies or misty mornings, to create distinctive and emotional photographs. That’s why I place great importance on adjusting light and contrast using techniques like dodge and burn with luminosity masks. With these tools, I aim to give shadows cooler tones and highlights warmer tones. 7) I continue fine-tuning the colors, using color theory principles, and save a few final adjustments for the end. 8) I often take a break before finalizing my edits. This strategy allows me to revisit the image with a fresh perspective and new eyes.” @jabisanz: How do you infuse mood and style into your photographs? 🎨 #madewithluminar
