✨P E M B R O K E S H I R E✨ I lucked out when I road tripped through Pembrokeshire.. it floated between 28-30 degrees with pure sunshine bliss the entire time 🤩 I stayed in a cheap AirBnb with basic facilities labelled ‘Magical Tiny Treehouse, room with a view’ & it lived upto expectations being surrounded by the Presili mountains & having wild horses as neighbours. 🌅Poppit sands for sunset - incredible! It’s a beautiful white sand beach and when I was there mid-August the sea didn’t feel cold. 🏝️Barafundle Bay - hidden & beautiful! didn’t feel like I was in Wales at all. You have to park & walk a while to get there but it’s a beautiful cliff side walk overlooking the sea. When you’re there it’s so relaxing, safe, not super crowded & the crystal blue waters are something else. ☀️Tenby - everyone rates this highly & I have to say it does have something for everyone. The beach is huge and ideal for all, there are plenty of quaint shops, pubs, cafes, and bits of history that make it a very attractive place. If you didn’t want to drive around then it’s a great little base but I know that it gets heaving in the summer & likely booked up AND parking can be an issue too. 💧Rosebush reservoir - It’s hidden away in such a random location that you park up & walk a little way to. It’s a small old quarry with a freezing water (refreshing in summer). With it being peak summer it was fairly busy when I went & there wasn’t much space but I had a lil dip anyway and walked the local area. Would still recommend but not if you’re too far out, only if it’s local. Go with caution as it’s an old quarry - it’s not got official or safe entry/exit routes into the water. ⛱️Amroth beach - huge beach with some cafes and shops nearby. Unlike Tenby where there’s more to do, you’d probably only come here to visit the beach and relax. I can’t say what any of these places would be like on your standard mild or cold day. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and get a heat wave too because I loved it. The blissfully quiet country lane on the edge of the lake and at the foot of Cader Idris is one of the most beautiful walks ever. This is about a 20 minute drive from Gwenllian. A weekend full of sunshine. We spent Sunday afternoon down at Tir Felin Y Comin garden to celebrate Beltane and the beginning of Summer. Lots of healthy soup to share with Welsh cider and some lovely singing, they even sang my favourites. We weeded the perennial bed, built stone paths and created a natural wall of felled branches from the riverside. Hopefully all the seedlings planted back in late March will start to wake up properly soon after this rain 🌱🍅 . . . We also explored a few footpaths locally that surprisingly hadn't been blocked off like all the ones by our house. The woodland was beautiful and full of bluebells covering the floor and there was a huge amount of moss hanging from the trees. There was also Skunk Cabbage which I have never seen in my life, it was an absolutely huge plant, maybe a metre in height? It does actually has interesting uses but best not to eat. We also found some sweet Marsh Marigold, like gold bursts in the shadows 🌞 . . . I also encountered this gorgeous three legged collie dog called Belle on a farm nearby. I've seen her twice this weekend and can't get her off my mind. A very sweet couple who had a right of way through their garden told me about how the path continued to the local farm she is on but it may be blocked, and asking the farmer's permission to walk through wouldn't be a bad idea. They mentioned Belle just so I knew when I went up. They also told me she'd been hit by the postman hence the three legs.... . . . Part of me wants to ask if the owners would consider letting me have her as she's been alone outside with no one home all weekend from what I've seen. She seemed to crave attention in a way I've seen from other less well treated dogs. But who knows. Being on the Northern Frontier at the edge of the Empire was a hard life. Its cold and wet ( don't we know it!!) So the soldiers who were stationed here had to adapt and wear suitable clothing, and footwear. Roman soldiers didn't all wear sandals!! As you can see from the photos of various members of Deva Victrix, there were a variety of boots and shoes available for the soldiers ( and Civilians) The Roman army introduced hobnails into Britain - and they soon caught on! As you can see the bottom of the shoes and boots have the nails driven into the sole to help create grip - if you walk around the Park and look at the earth tracks, you will see where the Romans have been walking by the tracks left by their hobnailed shoes and boots - our Iron Age Britons don't leave noticeable footprints when they walk because their boots don't have hobnails! Next time you meet a Roman or a Celt in the Park, ask about their shoes. An absolutely exceptional sorbet and gelato experience today at @sorbetnarberth aka Fire & Ice in Narberth, Pembrokeshire. I tried the Whiskey gelato, blackcurrant and greek yogurt gelato, dark chocolate sorbet and blackcurrant sorbet - wow. I honestly couldn't pick a favourite between them - though having never experienced a dark chocolate sorbet that was really exciting. They have a whole wall dedicated to Taste Awards they have won over the years and have received high praise from the likes of Jay Rayner. Ivan handmakes these superb gelato and sorbet delights in their small shop and they are only available there. They also sell a huge selection of alcohols and a small amount of local Welsh treats such as a savory Welsh cake and chocolates. The Station first opened in 1868 and is part of the Conwy Valley Railway. It was constructed by the London and North Western Railway with the primary aim of transporting dressed slate from the Blaenau Ffestiniog quarries to a specially built quay at Deganwy for export by sea. You can get here from Llandudno junction in just 30 minutes by train. This could be a great day trip out if you are staying in Conwy. The line still runs to Bleaun Ffestinog from Llandudno Junction in one hour. There is even a small railway museum to explore at the station.
