LITTLE CARL CARLTON • TWO TIMER / DROP BY MY PLACE • Hey friends, the holiday season is a shitshow in the bar business, so I haven’t really had anytime to post lately. But I’m starting to come up for air now, and even have a few free days ahead -hallelujah! Anyway, here’s a “little” #7inchsaturday spin I recently picked up from my good buddy @djsmilindan. Carl Carlton started recording in Detroit when he was just 11 years old. So as they did in 1964, they tagged a Little in front of his name and sent the records to the local shops. A few years later he switched over to Texas label Back Beat and got some actual distribution. He didn’t really find the American audience he’d hoped for, but over in the UK his first song was a smash. And this was all before he’d graduated high school!
