We were taught to always cite our sources — Here’s a number of perspectives on our first single, Georgian folk song “Okro Mch’edelo”: There’s a version of it sung by Georgian men on TV, a variant by Georgian women in a field, by a mix voice trio of non-Georgians, a version by the Yale Slavic Chorus, and a performance of it by Carl Linich (who learned this tune from sisters, as lore has it, and taught it around the US) singing it in Georgia with his now-grown sons. And then there’s us, on our record, and in a TBT cooking it up at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves. We’ve also included a video of powerhouse radio ensemble Basiani, from whom we borrowed the melody of “Gandagana” as a bridge for our arrangement.
