We have asked a local councillor how they will manage the parking issues when @phoenix_cinema has no service yard….we are still waiting for a response. Check out street view on your laptops- at least 6 vans shown delivering equipment on the day Google paid a visit. Alison Gold the chair of Trustees told us the yard was ‘unused’ & social media followed up using ‘wasteland’ to describe land that supports business hires, events etc. Misinformation secrecy and clearly no proper planning. Land is being sold without @phoenix_cinema keeping the freehold or any interest in land until after the developers planning applications are approved. This means Trustees have given away the charities land without releasing it’s true value . We told them this but they refused to pause the sale and re-market with the usual terms used on commercial land sales. WHY? Our Trustees have not done this so can’t maximise the money they could have made from the land and have no control or input over any future build. They are giving the land away for +-£400k. Ummm what to say! More untruths down at the Phoenix Cinema? The cafe did not close before the pandemic in 2019 Trustee Alison Gold is either confused or not telling the truth. The cafe was always popular and profitable, the issue was how to avoid paying back Heritage grant money and change the cafe into a tiny 2nd screen. Trustees decided to tell us it was unprofitable and that it closed before the pandemic, both statements are not true. There was never any mention of the cafe not being profitable in accounts, you can take a look at them online at companies house. All this to fund a home-cinema stye 2nd screen not fit for purpose at a commercial venue or at home 🤯 New accounts are due out anytime now there will be no surprises if they look bad. Quick fix solutions will be the imminent no-few strings-attached land sale AND ‘Best Offer’ on the land not accepted. Why was this? 🤔So what’s this all about? We have asked the Trustees to meet with a small group of Community members in the next week or so to discuss their proposals before the land is signed away to a developer. We think the rear service yard (which supports hired events, filming etc) can be used in a much better way to generate income and deliver a brighter future. We asked Trustees not to sell it off along with future potential for just +- £400k. We also think taking away the cafe space (used to relax and have pre-film drinks, support hires etc is a bad idea. Replacing the cafe with just 15 seat 2nd screen seems economically risky. People loved ❤️ our @phoenix_cinema cafe. Closed for lockdown (don’t believe anyone who tells you it was closed before…) it was never re-opened despite being profitable with consistent +£100k turnover a year. It sold locally sourced produce homemade and SO VERY N2 @eastfinchleyn2 Check out reviews about the Phoenix and you see how much of ❤️asset it was. Sadly it appears the cafe needed to ‘move over’ for plans for the 2nd screen in the cafe space. It never re-opened after lockdown & misleadingly branded ‘making a loss’ despite year on year profit supported by the end of year accounts. High profit, low waste ethical home-made was replacing with expensive , pre-packaged high waste items. A place for community deemed unimportant. What is happening? @phoenix_cinema is chasing dreams that might well turn to nightmares ending in RIP independant Cinema. Maybe its for the best? We expect the next few weeks will see 👀 Service yard sold. Here is a pessimistic #realistic view of what the future might hold… No yard & cafe area = limited hires and loss of high profile filming.
