One of the most amazing families who have invited me back year after year. Calvin answered the door with a huge smile and was just as excited to see me as I was him. We took a chance on the weather at the coast yesterday and it paid off beautifully. All the birds, a nearly empty beach, and after an all-day mist the weather cleared around us. What an absolute gem of a family...all the way from Nebraska! Sometimes I book sessions 5 months out, and sometimes I book them 5 days out. Laura messaged me last week and we were both so excited when we found out we could make today work for her family's first trip to Oregon! She even had her dress overnighted to Oregon (she's a photographer too, so yes, when you have an outfit in mind you make it happen). Needless to say, everything was as magical as it could be on this perfect September morning.
Round 2 for this sweet family. Niko wasn't havin' it the first time we met so we decided not to push it and scheduled a new date. I'm happy to report he absolutely loved the beach this time. Rocks, seashells, birds and sunshine... the perfect morning if you ask me.
I couldn't have asked for a better morning...the lighting, the people, the location. Nola just turned 5 and has the most beautiful personality and her sweet baby sis, Juneau is the cutest, squishiest, most perfect little babe. The minus tide showed us starfish and sea anemones and the sky was the bluest I've seen it all Summer....kind of sorta ready for Fall but maybe after this session, not so much.
The State Fair went from 70's photo shoot vibes... to rain, lightening and thunder just like that. So we made the best of it with cotton candy and Bacon Jalapeno cheddar fries. The Weiss cousins got to hang together, we got a couple cute pics, and probably won't ever attempt the fair on Labor Day weekend ever again... definitely a memorable one though!

A major bonus of being a baseball mom is getting to hang out with other families you probably wouldn't have gotten the chance to know otherwise. Their son, Ethan (aka: Big Tuna) spends his days working with his dad on the fishing boat, but also spends the Summer hitting dingers with my son during baseball season. When I found out his sisters were headed to college, I instantly wanted to squeeze a family session in before they started that adventure. Because mom perspective here, that's a really big deal. Not gonna lie though, that dog absolutely stole the show... I've never seen a tail wag so fast...

A family session is really just me chasing you around and watching you play. I love love love getting to be around new friends with kids who just want to run, jump, and pass tickle bugs back and forth. I had the best time with this sweet group who were here on vacation with their extended family. Between everyone living in 3 different states, these get togethers are extra worth documenting...
I don't have a catchy caption, but I am over the moon that I get to document this sweet family year after year. We saw the most beautiful sunset, popped sea kelp bulbs, named silly things that live in the ocean, and made all the memories we could in this little blip in time.
I got to spend a little chunk of time with this beautiful family! Niko is one of the sweetest littles and although he wasn't up for being in front of the camera, we still managed to get some cute little happy glimmers in those playful in between moments. We decided not to push it and are going to all meet up again within the next month, but maybe with an ice cream pit stop beforehand ;)

This beautiful family...all the way from Dallas, Texas! Their kids stepped on to the beach, kicked off their shoes, and instantly became little balls of energy. Imagine being 4 and 8 and being given a wide open beach to run as fast as you want, fall whenever knowing the landing is soft, and being with all the people who love you the most in your life. I'd be pretty excited too. And to all the parents who book with me, please know I love kids. I love them when they're wild or when their shy, when their bouncing off the walls or ready for a nap. Documenting their personality is my goal, so please don't ever feel nervous about how the session will go. Just Lyla and I taking beautiful mommy and me pictures at Zion, no big deal! Family sessions are an adventure, to say the least! And let me tell you, I am glad I packed this exquisite gown and convinced my family to leave our cozy cabin for this little escapade. Now, let me give you the real behind-the-scenes scoop of how this session unfolded. Picture this: We were running late, desperately trying to capture the perfect shot before the sun bid us farewell. Lyla rocked an 80's ponytail, not because I'm trying to bring back the glory of the '80s. I attempted to fix it, but she threw a massive fit, so we embraced the retro vibes! Oh, and that bow in her hair? Let's just say I had to reinsert it about a gazillion times before she finally surrendered. My persistence paid off! But wait, there's more! Lyla screamed her little heart out throughout the entire ordeal, except when I spun her around like a tornado. I was one dizzy mama just to keep the peace. And then there's Townes, our little shoe rebel. He adamantly refused to go barefoot or wear matching shoes. He’d only look at the camera if we said “whatever you do, don’t look at the camera.” Like any 3 year old, he did the opposite of what we said, got him!😉 Of course, he had to take a tumble and bonk his head, which was the grand finale of his participation. Poor baby, he'd had enough. And what about my husband? Bless his heart, he tried to be a good sport, but he was so over it right from the get-go. I feel you, fellow mamas who just “want a couple of decent pictures with everyone actually cooperating!” In the moment, it may not have been the most enjoyable experience, but looking back, I'm grateful we have these beautiful images to cherish forever. I know deep down, my hubby is probably thinking the same thing, but then again probably not! 🤣 I've only managed to edit two pictures so far, so brace yourselves for more gems to come!

Did you know if you ask grown brothers to race, they naturally turn into the Avengers? This is such a fun family to work with. I was lucky enough to get to photograph them a couple of years ago, and they are just as wonderful now as they were then. With everyone living states away and time flying by, I know that documenting get-togethers like this is so important and it just fills my cup all the way up.
