A Pakistani delegation has arrived in Kabul, according to the Foreign Office (FO), to have discussions with representatives of the interim Afghan administration over security-related issues. It tweeted that a high-ranking team, led by the defence minister, was in Kabul today to meet with representatives of the Afghan interim government to talk about security-related issues, including counterterrorism measures. Afghan acting deputy prime minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and defence minister Khawaja Asif were met by the Pakistani delegation, which also included Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum, Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan, Chargé d'Affaires (CdA) to Afghanistan Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani, and Pakistan's Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq. According to a statement from the Afghan Council of Ministers (prime minister), the two parties spoke about bilateral relations, trade, and economic cooperation. “Pakistan and Afghanistan are neighbours and should have cordial relations. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants expansion of commercial and economic relations with Pakistan as such relations are in the interest of both countries,” the statement quoted Mullah Baradar as saying. He noted that political and security issues should not affect trade and economic matters between the two countries and be kept separate from political and security problems. The statement said that the Afghan deputy prime minister asked the Pakistani delegation to release Afghans detained in jails across Pakistan. He also urged Pakistan to ensure facilities for Afghan passengers at the Torkham and Chaman-Spin Boldak borders, with special consideration for emergency patients. Hi friends, In this post, we’ll talk about the German permanent residency (PR). I hope you find it helpful, and share it with anyone who would benefit from it. With a PR, you can stay in Germany as long as you like without an extra visa/permit or even a work contract. For many of us, including myself, this offers a great peace of mind. Normally after 5 years of working in Germany, you are eligible to apply for PR. If you hold a blue card (see my earlier post on blue card), you can apply after only 33 months with A2 German level. Even better, if your German level is B1, this shortens to only 21 months. The process differs slightly in different cities, but the basics are the same. In Berlin, you email all your docs to the immigration office and ask for an appointment. Make sure to write your email in German. Once they process the application, you’ll be given an interview appointment. This appointment is usually nothing more than you going to the office, paying the fees, and providing any other doc they ask for. If all goes well, you receive a PR letter at the end of the appointment. It then takes a few weeks for the card to be ready! 🥳 List of the important needed docs: Proof of pension payment for the required time, work contract, last 6 salary slips, copy of the health insurance card, language certificate, copy of passport & blue card/permit, biometric photo, application form. Pro Tips: 1. German proficiency: It is totally possible to reach the B1 level after 21 months with 2 lessons/week. You can take an official German exam or show your level in the interview. To be on the safe side, I just took the exam. I’ll soon write a post on German learning and these exams. Keep an eye for that one. 2. Proof of pension payments: You can order it online: www.eservice-drv.de/SelfServiceWeb, and receive the report by mail. Or you can make an appointment with the deutsche Rentenversicherung office of your city and pick up the report in person. Useful phrases: Niederlassungserlaubnis (permanent residency), beantragen (to apply), Rente (pension), Landesamt für Einwanderung (immigration office), Rentenauskunft (pension information), Termin (appointment).

To work in Germany as an expat, you need either a work permit or a blue card. If you can, I definitely recommend getting a blue card. Why? With a blue card, you can apply for permanent residency after 22 or 33 months (depending on your German level). On a work permit, however, this time increases to 5 years. For some of us, including me, that is a huge difference. There are other benefits such as an easier work permit for spouse and not being tied to a certain employer after a while. Who can apply? Everyone with a university degree recognized in Germany and annual salary of higher than 56400 euros. For fields with shortage of skilled workers (doctor, IT specialist, etc), the min salary condition drops to 43992 euros (in 2022 according to https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/buergerservice/faq/02a-what-is-the-blue-card/606754). How do you get one? The first condition is for your field of study and university to be recognized in Germany. Check anabin.kmk.org to check if both are listed. If not, send your diploma and transcripts to ZAB (check kmk.org) to have your coursework evaluated. If you need to get a visa to enter Germany, bring your diploma with confirmations from ANABIN or ZAB, and your work contract to the embassy and ask for a blue-card visa. Once in Germany, book an appointment in the foreign office of your city to apply for a blue card. The most important needed documents: application form (available in English), Anmeldung, passport, work contract, employment confirmation not older than 14 days. You can ask your employer to help you here. If you have a permanent work contract, the card will be valid for about 4 years; Otherwise it will be valid until 3 months after the end of your contract. Useful words: Ausländerbehörde (foreign office), Visum (visa), Arbeitsvertrag (work contract), Blaue Karte (blue card), beantragen (to apply), Aufenthaltstitel (residence permit), Gebühren (fees). In a future post, I’ll write about permanent residency. Make sure to follow my page to see it! 🙂 I’d love to hear about your experiences applying for a work permit/blue card. Do you have any tips or questions? Leave them in the comments!
