(This car is for sale!) The Vortech v7 YSI is completely assembled, but we are ironing out some minor details. Some pointers for those wanting to run a renegade bracket assembly on your SBF. We ended up using a Derale 1/2” fan spacer to retain the fan clutch assembly (not an issue with electric fans), we are using an SN95 upper radiator hose trimmed to clear the blower. The fan shroud has been trimmed back to clear the belt drive. We run a copper NGK plug, 1-range cooler, with an initial gap of .025. We can tighten this further is we run into spark blow out, but with low boost, I don’t believe it will be an issue. #foxspeeddivision #ford #foxbody #mercurycougarxr7
I’m not sure how many people are attempting to install a Vortech on a 9.5” deck these days, but a bracket didn’t really exist before directly from Vortech, and certainly does not today. Although the bracket can be bolted to the 351w without any modifications, it sets the blower up about an 1”, but more importantly “outward” (or outboard) by approximately 3”. This “can” result in hood clearance issues as well as alignment for the lower inlet and discharge. What you’re seeing here is a properly modified bracket to place the blower in the intended (302) position. 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe; engine prep work, for the 347 EFI swap. Retaining a v8 t5, and the 8.8” 3.73’s. I understand there is a community of 2.3L turbo diehards, but realistically; the 302 and 351w are a “better” motor for these cars. A few simple tweaks can wake up a 2.3L, but it’s not long before you start seeing the short falls of the 2.3 platform. Non-existent low end and mid range power, and a dressed 2.3 is only 50lbs lighter than a 5.0. 99% of drivers won’t even notice that difference, and will alloy heads, it’s an even playing field. I consider this my 1988 Mercury Cougar version 1.5 The original combo was an F303+ summit grind, .020 over flat top bottom end. Lightning lower, explorer upper. **For those considering a 351w swap, and retaining your AOD, listen up. Upper left hand side is the stock 88’ flywheel that was behind a 5.0L (50oz external balance), upper left is a stock 5.8L flywheel (28oz external balance). Both of these have the proper tooth count and the tooth rings are on the same “plane”. However, (if you zoom in) you will see that the 5.8L flexplate has a raise lip immediately inside of the ring tooth. As a result the mounting surface is roughly 1/4 of an inch further toward the torque converter. Guess what this done? It breaks the pump inside the trans. I did some research and found that the 1989 Ford LTD Crown Vic (police cars with the 5.8L) were equipped with an AOD! Part number is Pioneer FRA205. This is pictured at the bottom. We are in the process of installing it. But all measurements suggests that this “is” the correct flexplate to use. #foxspeeddivision #ford #foxbody #351w #95decknation #95deckmafia

Did a little service on this 1990 Mustang LX. Ditched the fender mount MAC intake and went back to the stock airbox. Cloytes timing set, Felpro gaskets, front main seal, HD water pump, HD fan clutch, 180 t-stat, new fan and shroud. NGK plugs, FORD Racing plug wires, cap and rotor. We picked up a 1990 original black on black, true 5.0L notch on the 4th of July. She had been sitting for a number of years, when the previously owner finally decided to cut it loose. 1988 Mercury Cougar XR7 project- I’ve been doing some research and talking to some long time engine builders. I came to find out that the late production 351w (F4TE) roller blocks “can” have cracks in the #2 and #4 cam journal. This is actually directly beneath the screw in bosses for the roller lifter “spider” that holds down the dog bones for the lifters. Experts suggest this is present in roughly 3 to 5 out of 10 production blocks! It can only be confirmed by removing the cam bearings. I figured I’d share what I found. Pictured- roller 351 will be decked to bump compression, GT40 heads will be milled .015”, and we will be running a .039” head gasket. Summit’s F303+ cam. Lightning lower, BBK shorties. Some people had asked me about the solid axle rear-end conversion. These cars came with a D36 or D44 IRS from the factory. The car currently has a 9” OE housing that was cut down to fit the c4. Stock c4 disc brakes, rear. Torque arm, lower control arms and a pan hard bar is used (all custom). The factory sway bar is present. This Mazdaspeed came together nicely. Came in with a rod knock. After closer inspection, piston/rod 4 was toast. The crank had to be welded and ground down. We went with Clevite bearings, Mahle bearings (more gap for boost), OE Mazda oil pump, decked block, milled head, and the works. Another one back on the road. So a few days and a few hundred miles of ownership. Is it “fast”, sure. Is it what all the reviews make these things out to be, no. The truth is, it’s a well mannered, well thought out “package”. Almost no compromises, excellent brakes, excellent handling, and stout acceleration. The fact that you’ve got ice cold ac, 21-ish mpg doing 90mph, and all the creature comforts is what makes it.
