På Kristi himmelfartsdag, den 9. mai, ble det en tur ut i regnet for å besøke linje 37. Holdeplassen på Helsfyr blir nå forlenget slik at de reisende som ankommer med 37 og skal over på banen eller bytte buss, snart skal slippe å gå av på gressplenen foran Etterstad nord for å gå siste biten til holdepassen. Med EL-busser, som stadig skal inn eller ut til eller fra lading, har det ikke fungert bra her, men det var også et problem med dieselbusser. Holdeplassen har plass til tre vogner og de førerne som er ferdig med skiftet oppfordres til å bli i bussen for følge på i køen når første buss drar til sentrum. Hvis fører av den bakerste bussen bare parkerer og går hjem blir neste buss stående bak og den neste stopper bak den igjen, slik at køen med tomme busser vokser bakover i retning Etterstadkroken. At man har tatt tak i dette vil gjøre det lettere for de reisende og bedre den generelle fremkommeligheten i Etterstadsletta forbi Helsfyr. Together we tasted several of our current and upcoming coffees that we imagined could be enjoyed while listening to the catchy and genre-bending songs, complete with the idiosyncratic and smart lyrics Kolstø has built her career on. We landed on our new coffee La Chancha from Peru. This is a lot that has been made up of peaberry coffee beans that were sorted out of normal lots. Peaberry is a natural mutation that occurs where just one coffee seed develops instead of two. They are tiny and adorable and taste delicious! This is our second time buying a peaberry lot from the Gitesi washing station in Karongi district. This washing station is run by father and son Alexis & Aime Gahizi and was built in 2005. Alexis is from this region and his family has been growing coffee for generations. As a result the family has strong ties with the local community of farmers. Grab a bag and give it a try today! This coffee is bright and sweet with notes of lime, coconut and toffee. The band’s 5th album is inspired by bandleader and songwriter Stine Andreassen who took inspiration from 379 letters sent from her grandfather, when he was at sea and stationed abroad. Introducing the second edition of Sessions: Coffee + Vinyl!! For this April edition of Sessions: Coffee + Vinyl, we are highlighting @thenorthernbelle_official and their new release Bats in the Attic. Together we tasted several of our current and upcoming coffees that we imagined could be enjoyed while listening to the unique brew of pop-oriented americana and folk music and the SL28 varietal lot of Los Tongos from Honduras stood out from the start. This coffee is bright and sweet with notes of lime, coconut and toffee. The band’s 5th album is inspired by bandleader and songwriter Stine Andreassen who took inspiration from 379 letters sent from her grandfather, when he was at sea and stationed abroad. The fact that this coffee is a Kenyan varietal grown in Honduras and now roasted in Norway presented a beautiful juxtaposition of her Grandfather’s life at sea. **The first 20 buyers will be entered into a raffle to win a signed copy of the LP. These first 20 orders will be shipped out after the raffle on 15th of April. Product includes 1x LP of The Northern Belle / Bats in the Attic and 1x 250g bag of Los Tongos (SL28) / Washed coffee beans from Honduras. Our Gamlebyen bar manager, @tirilreksnes is in Japan for 3 months for an exchange with our @fuglentokyo coffee bars. Last week she was able to visit the tea farm that we source our Fuglen Sencha tea from (in collaboration with @spillthetea.no ). This is a family business owned and operated by the Kinezuka family. This tea farm is a 100% ecological (organic) farm with no pesticides used 🌱 Tiril visited just before the start of first flush, which is used for green tea. After this it gets warm and bugs infest the plants making the tea bitter, while first flush gives a sweeter tea, perfect for green tea. It is the harvest from this first flush that is used in our Fuglen Sencha! Tiril also enjoyed a lunch and tea tasting with Tamiko, who helps manage the operations. 📯 New Coffee 📯 Our latest Friends of Fuglen Coffee: Joyce is now available in our Oslo coffee bars and online at Fuglencoffee.no! Joyce is one of the daughters of Omar Calderòn, who we have been buying coffee from since 2021, (but some of our personal friendships go back to 2012). For her birthday, instead of wishing for a trip to travel abroad, she asked for a coffee farm. To honor her wish, her father gave her the farm named after her, "Joyce". Their family have been producing coffee and managing the micro processing mill for the last twenty years. Omar oversees the whole operation but the day to day running of the mills is done by his daughters. This coffee was processed using the White Honey method. This process involves removing 70-85% of the mucilage on the coffee. It is a delicious and unique coffee for us full of sweet fig, strawberry, and floral notes of black tea. The farm itself is 200 hectares. This is a Honey process coffee which is quite unusual for Ethiopia. NM 2024 Last weekend was the Norwegian Nationals and we are so proud of our Fuglen Team! We sent our three roasters to the Cup Tasters competition; Ludvik, Oliver, & Corey. They all went head to head in an intense first round. After some great preliminary and semi-final rounds, our team secured 2 of the 4 spots in the final round. In the end, Ludvik repeated his 3rd place from last year 🥉 with Oliver following in a strong 4th place! Well done 👏 👏 Thea was invited to compete in the Classic Barista competition after doing very well at the Oslo Regionals. Thea used our Friends of Fuglen Coffee, Joyce as her espresso and it was absolutely delicious! Her specialty drink consisted of mango and passion fruit purée, honey from Kampen, freeze dried raspberries infused with nitrogen and served cold. She made it to the finals as well with a really solid performance in the first round! With another great presentation, Thea did fantastic job and came in 4th place overall! We are so proud of Thea and all of our staff that competed this year. Fuglen had a strong representation at the Nationals with one of the largest teams and that is something we are really be proud of! Long Miles aims to create traceable micro-lots that yield consistently great coffees while improving the livelihoods of the smallholder farmers who grow them.
