True story. Instead of spending tons of money on bins and drawer organizers, consider implementing systems so you have less to manage. Get some systems in place so you don’t have to work harder but instead can be smarter about how you spend your time. 🛍️ Purchase thoughtfully. The less you bring in, the less you have to organize. 📦 Donate / Declutter regularly. Get the stuff that’s cluttering up your life out of there. 🎁 Talk to loved ones about gifts. Emphasize experiences over things. Give gift cards or experiences so you don’t have a closet of “what if” gifts. Streamline your gift giving to reflect your idea of less stuff. 📚 Use what you have. Instead of buying something new, shop your house for something. That book you bought to read “someday.” The piece of clothing with the tags still attached. The body wash at the back of your closet. Use what you already own and you will often find you already have enough. 🏠 Borrow things from friends. It gives you a reason to see someone, it creates community, its social and it keeps excess out of your house. Share with others and borrow too! #getclearwithpaige #lessstuff #clearwithpaige #homeorganizing #housemanager #photomanager #photoorganizer #greenwichorganizer #napomember

It’s Friday so I’m winding down my week. I try to work at home on Fridays. I find things go better for me if I do, but sometimes it doesn’t happen. Anyway, today is my day to take care of things for the week, plan out my next week, send any emails I need to send, ship any boxes of stuff back to people (today it’s two boxes to two different people), and generally set myself up for a good weekend. While I will be working tomorrow at a decluttering job (only day the adult children could be available to make decisions), I still feel it’s important to take Fridays as a wind down and planning day. Do you schedule this time into your week, too? Whether you are working outside the home or not, it’s always nice to head into the weekend with a clear head. . . #homeorganizer #photoorganizer #declutter #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige

This photo is clearly being enjoyed now! JUST KIDDING. I pulled this out of a bin of misc. stuff on Friday where I was working. I love when I find photos on things like this. It reminds me so much of the late 1990s when I would store college work on a floppy. Can’t wait to get this trapped photo off this floppy disc so it can be enjoyed again! Blown away by an amazing 3 day bootcamp/workshop to level up my photo organizing work. We are so lucky people trust us to preserve their memories but it takes A LOT of knowledge to do it the right way, the most efficient way and to continue learning as processes improve and change. I’m walking away from this bootcamp taught by @chaostomemories and with a renewed excitement for the work we do and a deeper knowledge base. We worked thought all sorts of aspects of physical photo organizing, digital photo organizing, smarter Adobe based workflows, hardware and software updates and info, business processes, and much much more. Our day began at 7:30 am with airBnB kitchen discussions in our pajamas and ended at 11 pm each night after a full day in the studio, lunches and dinners together. We squeezed at least 16 hours of learning from each other and Adam into each day. Three full days of nerding out over cords, hard drives, archival storage, Lightroom plug-ins and more. I am feeling so ready to jump back into my work projects and to make my work even better. . . . #photoorganizing #photomanager #getorganized #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige #homeorganizer

If you struggle with paper piles like me but are tired of seeing them all over, clear space for it to be out of sight but still easy to find. Instead of using the top drawer of my desk for other things, it’s my place to throw papers that I need to look at and deal with. All those random things that end up on the counter or cluttering up your desk, I throw them in this drawer and pull them out when I have the time. It keeps my desktop and counter tidy and also keeps my pending and to-do items at my fingertips. Try it! You might find it works for you, too. I love finding better systems for keeping a house manageable in a sustainable way. It’s all about having the right systems and habits in place. Not trying to scare anyone but I’ve been working on a VHS digitizing project and have been having issues with some of the VCRs. If you have any VHS tapes to digitize, there is no time like the present. I was working on a tape yesterday from 2004 and it seemed so recent and then I did the math and that was TWENTY years ago. I get lots of tapes from the 1980s and that’s like FOURTY years ago! Tapes do not last forever. They degrade and break down every day you let them just sit. And they don’t make VCRs anymore so what’s out there is the world is what we have to work with and every day I’m sure more go to VCR heaven so there are even less. Moral of the story. If you have memories stored on VHS tapes, please get them digitized. I’m happy to help you with this process and I’m happy for you to find another way. But please get it done. ✔️ #photomanager #photoorganizer #enjoyyourmemories #getclearwithpaige #clearwithpaige

If you still have holiday shopping to do or are starting to feel frazzled, you are going to want to read what I have to say in my newest blog post about having your best holiday season. This entire post is FULL of gifts you are not too late to buy, gifts that won’t clutter up a space, gifts you will feel good about giving. I have spent way too much time putting this list together and am exited to share it with you in the hopes that you will feel inspired to skip the store and spend the rest of your December reading on the couch with your dog instead of frantically shopping. This hit pretty close to home after having my parents visiting for a week. They LOVE to thrift shop so while they were here, I organized a schedule that included going to 14 (YES, fourteen) thrift shops in the greater area. A tank of gas later and my dad had stocked up on a counter full of Waterford crystal to add to his collection. That’s his thing. I enjoy the time with them and think of it an pure entertainment any time I spend money while we are thrifting but it’s easy to come home with extra stuff we don’t need so I have to be mindful. I use the shopping as a time to stock back up on puzzles, books to take on vacation (that I leave behind) and random other things I would buy full price anyway. It’s always a good time and I enjoy spending the time with my parents BUT, this cartoon is really speaking to me. #homeorganizer #lessismore #declutter #clearspace #getclearwithpaige

Work today was to clear out some bathrooms to get a client ready for demo. But our work didn’t start in the bathroom. Instead we cleaned out a hallway linen closet first and I’m so happy for this family. They crushed it with the decluttering of their linens to make room for what they need NOW! Less linens in the closet meant we could use the space for other stuff, like the bathroom stuff! Pros: 🔥Clients are ready for demo to begin on their bathrooms! Yippie! That was the goal! 🔥Other people get to use the linens that were in here instead of it all sitting in the closet. 🔥Used towels will go to a dog shelter where they will be appreciated again! 🔥Client gets to be generous and share a set of sheets with a family member. 🔥We consolidated stuff from multiple places so it’s easier to find in one spot and therefore they are less likely to make duplicate purchases. Yeah for saving money! So while today’s work was about getting the bathrooms ready for demo…the work started in the “back of house” / closet area. You have to have space to put items that need to be removed. Much of the time, the work doesn’t start where you think it should start. Basements, attics, closets are always a great place to begin so you can see what extra space you even have to store other things. . . . #homeorganizer #napomember #lessismore #stuffmanager #getorganized #goodsystems #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige

Travel Hack: We stayed 7 days, 6 nights in Iceland and in the middle 2 days we booked an @airbnb with a washer and dryer so we could wash our clothing. It’s July 1st! That’s my signal to myself to take a minute and clean up my photos, make sure I have everything tidy so we can move into a new month feeling good. Use my PICS method to get a handle on your photos from the last 30 days and FUTURE YOU will be so happy. P = Prepare yourself by asking how many photos you think is a good amount to tell your story for this past month. And what story do you want to tell? Sometimes I challenge myself to save only a certain amount of pics. It’s a good exercise in boundaries. I = Inspect your photos from June and see what you have. Be ruthless about deleting the junk you don’t need. Pics of that address you needed, pics of your dinner out. Do you really need to keep all of that? Less is more! Delete. Delete. Delete. Pics people texted or emailed you that you never saved. Get on it! S = Strengthen your photos with a secure backup. If you’re an apple user, consider picking the best ones to export from the apple ecosystem to save elsewhere, or backup to a cloud system like Amazon or Dropbox. Being organized is all about the freedom it gives me. At the start of every summer season, I turn the closet in our mud room into a summer closet. All the beach & pool towels come out, the sunscreen and bug spray are easy to find, everything gets a once over and tidied up. I don’t do it for any other reason than I like to have my own freedom. I don’t want someone calling me asking where something is and disturbing me while I’m doing my own thing. I’ll say that again. BEING ORGANIZED IS ACTUALLY ABOUT ME HAVING FREEDOM. I don’t have to be the only one knowing where something lives. It’s about everyone knowing where everything is so mom can be free to (insert whatever you want to do). It’s about raising independent children who can find things without calling me. It’s about modeling for them how to make life easier and less stressful when they are running late and need something before they get out the door (easy to find if it’s organized). I’m not organized because I’m super type-a. In fact, I think I drive my type-a friends crazy because I’m usually a bit more relaxed. Because having systems means I can relax and be free to just be me. It’s a beautiful thing. And not because it actually looks beautiful (which it does) but because I know I’m not going to get a call asking where the bug spray is located. It’s all about the freedom for me. . . . #homeorganizer #napomember #getorganized #mudroom #summercloset #getclearwithpaige

Do you have photos hidden on your camera that need to see the light of day? I love the photos we have in our front hallway and they pack a punch of happy. All 3 of these pics were shot on my iPhone. Left is a bunch of buoys in the Florida keys, the middle is a photo I took from another hot air balloon in Jackson Hole and the far right is graffiti on the front of a bakery in Iceland. If you’re wondering what to do with all those photos, just pick one or more and make something, ANYTHING. You’re not married to them so if you hate them….print something else. These are all printed on acrylic but metal prints have a huge wow factor, too! So get to it. Print something and enjoy your memories in your home. Don’t let your photos get rusty on your computer. How do I get away with not buying or storing annoyingly large rolls of wrapping paper? I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again….USE WHAT YOU HAVE. I always snag a couple free folded maps when we are on vacation and then use them for gift wrap. This was a little thank you gift for hosting a weekend away in Vermont so I used a Vermont map and googled a new way to wrap a bottle. I think it turned out cute! AND I don’t have to think about storing wrapping paper. AND they get something consumable to use up and not clutter their own home. Have you done your monthly photo maintenance? I went through my own camera roll and found well over 400 pics & videos to delete. I typically have this many to delete because I use my phone camera so much for everything. If I delete around this much every month, it means I’m purging around 5,000 items per year. That really adds up for me as I don’t even keep 5,000 pics per year. Another reminder to make the time to clean it up. It’s February 1, which means it’s time to take care of your photos from January. Remember that you don’t need a lot of photos to tell your story from the past month. You need just the right ones. Sometimes I like to challenge myself to get it down to a certain number of photos so future me will be thankful I already made the hard decisions and have less to manage. Go through your pics and delete the duds, pick the best of the burst photos, delete the ones with your eyes closed, delete the pics you took of something to remember from your to/do list, delete the screenshots you don’t need. If other people have pics you might want, now is the time to get them and add those to your collection. And, a final step I love to take is to make sure you make a copy of all the pics you are keeping. Put them on a hard drive, store them in Dropbox…whatever suits your fancy. But an extra back-up copy is ALWAYS a good idea. *If you haven’t heard, Shutterfly share sites will be going away next month. If you know there are pics you want from those share sites, no better time than now to collect them before it’s a mad rush!* . . . #letsgetclear #getclearwithPaige #lessismore #less #digitaldeclutter #photorganizer #paigesystems #photomanager #homeorganizer #napomember

Working on some negative and slide scanning today. The post processing in Lightroom is my least favorite part and also where the magic happens so🤷🏼‍♀️. When the lockdown hit, I dove deeper into learning how to complete and entire photo organizing project myself. I was already doing most things but decided I wanted to scan negatives and slides in the best possible way. What better time to learn how to camera scan than when you are literally stuck at home? I’m so appreciative of the stillness I had during the lockdown to really immerse myself in important learning projects. To take the time to get better at things. To take advantage of an otherwise crappy time. Don’t get me wrong. There were plenty of not so great things about lockdown. Trying to see the silver lining here! Making lemonade out of lemons. Today I dropped off 2 amazing kids art books to a client. I’m so happy with how they turned out and so is she! I photographed at least two or three bins of her two kids’ artwork and lots of oversized posters too! So many paintings, pottery pieces, large poster boards, drawings, letters to Santa, and tons of 3D art. The memories are now preserved in one book for each kiddo. And now they can also let go of all the original art if it’s not being displayed. This holiday season I’ve been editing out the things I brought down from the attic. I’ve been taking a closer look at what I have in storage to use “only at Christmastime” and rethinking how much energy I want to invest in having those items in our home. I bought this bowl a couple months ago at a thrift shop. It’s this thick depression glass bowl and I love it. Fast forward to holiday decorating and this bowl has been living on my counter with holiday Hershey kisses in it. I love it so much because I can use it for more than JUST at Christmas time. I donated ALL my Christmas themed dishes and serve ware to instead use pieces like this that can be used all year round and more than that, I don’t plan to buy anything new that’s specifically holiday themed. A plain green bowl is great for the holiday season. It’s great for birthday parties. It’s great for St. Patrick’s day, even Halloween! I also have a plain red bowl that’s great for Christmas, birthdays, Valentines Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, etc. It’s still festive but not so in-your-face Christmas themed. And I’m ok with that. So I don’t think I need the Santa plate I use once a year. I don’t need the reindeer plates that are so cute but require storage for most of the 365 days. Instead, I’m intentionally opting to have stuff that can be used year round. No storage in the attic needed. I feel like this could be a topic people have strong opinions about and if you love your Santa themed plates, please please keep them. I’m just sharing how I’m trying to simplify our belongings in a way that makes sense for us. In a way that makes me feel less overwhelmed in this busy season. In a way that gives us all permission to say good-bye to things that aren’t serving your peace anymore. ✌️ . . . #lessismore #homeorganizer #lifecoach #napomember #simplify #getclearwithpaige #letsgetclear

We have made four of these t-shirt quilts from old tees and they are so cozy, so easy to wash, great for cooler mornings at a pool, awesome for picnics, napping on the couch. We love them AND I love the memories that come flooding back when I pull one out. From special birthday tees, camp tshirts, I even had some made from all my college t-shirts. Clear up the space in your closet and upcycle your stuff into something you’ll use! Perfect gift for the holidays too! Not an ad, I get nothing from this. Just sharing our love for @projectrepatusa as this holiday season approaches. #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige #homeorganizer #lessismore #napomember #declutter

I seriously love love love doing the monthly declutter groups. I adore the messages people send me, the photos of their cleaned out spaces, the pics of the stuff they are letting go of, and the clarity they are getting by recognizing it doesn’t have to be perfect. So so great. Yesterday I was checking in on the group as a whole and asking how everyone is feeling about their progress, as well as anything that’s giving them trouble. How great is this little snippet someone wrote. I’m so happy they are happy with their progress! . . . #bluepenciltestimonial #homeorganizer #declutter #lessismore #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige #napomember #professionalorganizer

Yesterday I had a 45 minute train ride into NYC and I intentionally sat and went through my pics. I had a ton from when my parents visited and even more from leaf walks. Who can resist taking a million lead pick. Not me, BUT I can’t keep them all. Future Paige is going to be so happy not to have to deal with these 600 pics and videos. I feel so much lighter. . . . . #photoorganizer #photomanager #lessismore #digitaldeclutter #getclearwithpaige

It’s that time again! First of every month signals that it’s a good moment to deal with your photos from the past month. Use my PICS method to deal with them in a way that makes sure you are crossing all the ts and dotting every i. Click the link in my bio for more details but it’s basically this: P = prepare yourself using these questions. Does this photo tell the story I want to remember about my life and family? How many photos do I need to tell this story? I = Inspect what you have a delete ruthlessly…..get rid of the duds, the screenshots you don’t need, the blurry pics of the floor. Delete anything that doesn’t align with your questions above. I’m telling you LESS IS MORE. C = Collect photos from other sources. Other parents who took pics at sports games…take the time to look through them and pull what you want. Emails, texts, etc. Gather everything together. S = Strengthen your library by making a backup. Either in a cloud or an external hard drive. It’s always the best to have 3 copies out there. So get to it. Instead of scrolling, spend some time cleaning out your photos and future you will be happy! . . . #photoorganizer #photomanager #declutter #digitaldeclutter #lessismore #picsmethod #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige

Working all weekend to help a busy family reclaim the space in their home. Today was a full session in the basement and we cleaned out SO much! I’m taking a full car load of stuff with me and we got rid of so many boxes and packaging. The wife came down and said to her husband, “Wow, this is your dream to have our basement look like a store!” We are making it come true for them this weekend! Just the tip of the iceberg because we are tackling the whole house. But I have a special place in my heart for pantries, basements, and attics. These places make the whole house run better when they are organized, so says a former retail ops manager. I spent years in stockrooms and moving merchandise around to make the sales floor function better. It’s pretty much the same thing. #lessismore #declutter #getclearwithpaige #homeorganizer #napomember #declutter

Not a glamorous day of working but had a list of tidying up projects somewhere today which included sorting through their misc. organizing bins to consolidate and streamline. Took a bunch home with me and it’s being donated to a neighboring town church’s annual tag sale event. Hopefully someone else can use them! So happy they are letting some of these bins go! Walking in the basement just got easier! . . . #homeorganizer #napomember #getclearwithpaige #declutter #lessismore

Nearing the end of this project. Imagine that you started with many many bins of printed physical photos, a trash bag of loose photos, many many vhs tapes and camcorder tapes, CDs, photos from your parents, your own childhood, 25 years of marriage and raising kids, oversized photos, holiday cards through the years….the list goes on. Now it’s all organized on a tidy little hard drive. It’s all uploaded to your password protected family website. You don’t have to worry about protecting your family memories because it’s all been done for you. I’ve been staring at my computer all day working on the last bits. It’s a good feeling, isn’t it. I’m so excited to be wrapping this one up but guess what….I was just told that there is more. There is always more. So close. So so close. . . . . #photoorganizer #photomanager #getorganized #digitaldeclutter #lessismore #declutter #getclearwithpaige #getclear

I post about this at least once a year when a birthday has passed and it’s time to make the traditional “birthday card book.” I gather the cards together and try to out a number card on the front, if there is one. Then I line up the others and hole punch them and grab some scrap ribbon and tie them together. It’s fun keeping all the memories together and they can enjoy the cards as a book instead of being scattered all over the place. And someday, if they want to throw them away, they can have at it. Tips. 1. Try to put large heavier cards at the front “cover” and back “cover.” Keep handwritten cards on paper in the middle. It’s less likely to tear off this way. 2. Not all cards are large enough to have 3 holes like the front and back cards. I try to alternate between cards going on the top two and the bottom two to keep it all balanced. 3. Stick the finished book in your kids’ room or bookshelf. You’ll be amazed how often you see them flipping through it. What do you do with birthday cards? I recycle all the other cards we get but like to keep these for some reason. #homeorganizer #stuffmanager #declutter #enjoyyourstuff #getclearwithpaige #managingkidsmemories

If you have been here for a long time, you know I always post a monthly reminder to clean up your photos. A small monthly habit goes a long way to easing the overwhelm I see in a lot of photo collections. This is also what I use for my own personal library and have been doing this process for over a decade in my personal life. I recently wrote a guest blog post for @bemorewithless all about my “PICS” method for keeping photos tidy. If you struggle to keep your photos cleaned up, using this method will help you tackle little bits at a time…and that adds up to something big (or hopefully less big if you delete a lot). P: Prepare yourself by using specific questions to help guide the process. Does this photo help tell the story I want to tell about my life and family? Do I want to deal with this photo later on in life? How many photos do I really want to keep? I: Inspect what you have from the past month. Edit ruthlessly. C: Collect other photos that might help complete your story. S: Strengthen your photo collection by creating a back-up. I always export my photos from my phone camera roll and have another copy on my local computer, which then backs up into a cloud. Three copies is king! Read the whole article for more details on my “PICS” photo management method and extra tips to keep your photo collection tidy. Link in my bio. And feel free to share this post with anyone you think would benefit from a monthly photo maintenance habit. And if you don’t follow Courtney Carver @bemorewithless you are missing out. She has written some amazing books about simplicity and I really enjoy all her thoughts and musings. . . . #photoorganizer #getclearwithpaige #lessismore #digitaldeclutter #photomanager

Hello October! It’s super rainy in my neck of the woods so today is a great day to find a moment of time when you might be tempted to scroll or shop and instead do something your future self would be happy about. Clean up your photos from the past month! Think about how many pics you think is appropriate to keep. Delete the junk. Keep only the ones that tell your story. Get rid of the screenshots and keep only the gems. Make sure you collect photos from other people you might want and move into a new month feeling like your photos are in good shape. #photoorganizer #photomanager #getclearwithpaige

Worked on a little garage re-set today at a client’s home. It had gotten a bit out of control over the summer so we reigned it in and made some space to breathe. There is always more to come. #homeorganizer #napomember #getclearwithpaige

Donation drop off at a couple places today. Collected most of this from a client yesterday and added a couple of my own bags. Locals, the Rummage Room in OG is accepting donations M-Th 11-3. They are back to their old donation schedule. It’s not just two days anymore!!! So that’s your cue to get decluttering! #homeorganizer #stuffmanager #napomember #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige

Unpacking groceries is so easy when everything has a home. In fact, as soon as we got home, I had to get on a zoom call so my 12 year old unpacked all the groceries and I came down to all empty boxes, empty flour and sugar bags and a stocked snack bin in the pantry and sparkling water in the fridge. Unpacking the groceries is SO much easier when mom doesn’t have to do it herself. And that’s what it all about, folks. Give other people in your house the gift of organization and it’s easier for YOU to get things done and keep your house tidy. My kids are the bomb. #homeorganizing #declutter #aspaceforeverything #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige

What a fun time spent this weekend at a friend’s place, whipping their pantry into shape for the school year! It’s amazing how much product they already had in here that we were able to reuse! We did take a trip to the container store for some additional items and we grouped like containers together to give it a more cohesive look, also adding a clear shoe holder to the door to give them quick access to things. I think this space is going to be a game changer for their family to enjoy from here on out! Swipe to see the before and also other closer shots of the fun. My favorite is the wooden lazy susan they had in the back that we turned into their “nut” center. I know, I’m a nut. The best part is all the empty space they have in there. It’s amazing to have some breathing room. Thankful for friends who trust me to get down and dirty in their homes! #homeorganizer #napomember #lessismore #getclearwithpaige #letsgetclear #pantrygoals

I’ve been hemming and hawing over getting a GPS tracker for my dog to put on their collar. The one I was looking at was expensive plus the subscription. While I was wrestling with this in my brain, my friend sent me a link to this waterproof dog collar apple AirTag holder and I was super excited to try it out. I just got it attached to their collars and inserted the airtags and now I can keep a better eye on the dogs in case they get out or separated on a hike. Link in my bio if you also think this would be of help for you and your furry family members. I’ve been hearing of people putting AirTags in their checked luggage for traveling so they can locate if it gets lost. Seems like a smart idea for a dog, too! #letsgetclear #getclearwithpaige
