All rounded of by lovely silky tannins. 🍷Domaine de l' Espigouette, Vacqueyras 2017 - a deep and powerful wine focusing on dark fruits. Herbal notes of rosemary and laurel are intertwined with a slight toast making this a real treat. It would go perfectly with your Sunday roast Beef or Lamb. 🍷Turley Wine Cellars, Old Vine Zinfandel 2017 - dense and rich with classic aromas of ripe strawberry, blackberry, pepper and liquorice. Smooth tannins and sublime purity of fruit. Great if you're not hunkering down alone. 😉 Cheers!

🇮🇹 The Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 2015 got a well deserved spot among the 50 Best in Show wines at the recent Decanter Wine Awards. Bravo! 👏 📍Based in the South West quarter of Montalcino, Argiano has a long history dating back to 1580. In 1967 Argiano was among the founding members of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino. In 2013 the estate was bought by André Esteves who started an extensive renovation programme and the vineyards have been mapped into six separate zones for an even more accurate selection of the grapes.👌 🌄The property counts 70ha under vines, on a plateau at 300m asl. The soil is mainly clay with limestone and fossils. 🍇100% Sangiovese Grosso, their Brunello is made from selected hand-picked grapes. The wine is then matured in large French oak for 30 months with a further 1 year in the bottle before release. 🍷Remarkably supple considering its youthfulness, this Brunello shows beautiful earthy fruit and spice. Complex and ripe tannic structure, this is a wine that will develop in bottle for a number of years to come, but can give great pleasure now if decanted for a couple of hours prior to drinking. Following on Richard's recent blog piece on California's new wave, here are two delicious recommendations! 😋 The Field Recordings wines are a catalog of single vineyard wines with a sense of place and personality. Wonderwall focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from extreme, coastal locations in Edna Valley. It's the engaging Andrew Jones’s passion-project and the name 'Wonderwall', he says, refers to the invisible barrier between yourself and your dreams. Field Recordings, ‘Wonderwall’ Pinot Noir 2018 Juicy, succulent fruit, only 15% new French oak adds a tiny slither of subtle seasoned oak and bright coastal acidity a stunning uplift and focus. Field Recordings, ‘Wonderwall’ Chardonnay 2018 Rich golden fruit, luscious palate and fragrance, with enough oak to lift and enhance, without overpowering. Lovely acid to balance and a crisp, long finish.
This week is Bethany's turn to pick her recommendation as part of the series WHAT WE ARE DRINKING? 🤔 Beth "My favourite wine from the shop recently is the Blank Bottle - Master of None. I love the story and the philosophy behind Pieter Walser's Blank Bottle range. He explains the concept behind the Blank Bottle range by telling the story of how in 2004, a lady came to his house to buy wine. She asked for anything but Shiraz. 'I don't drink Shiraz' were her exact words. Pieter poured her a glass of wine - she loved it and bought 3 cases. It was a straight Shiraz. As Pieter says 'It's a fact - we do judge the book by its cover'. So was born his range of wines that give very little away on the bottle, and are limitless when it comes to style, vintage and grape variety. 🍷Master of None (a reference to the fact that Pieter makes 37 different wines, with a variety of grapes and styles, so goes the saying 'Jack of all trades, master of none) is a blend of Grenache noir, Cinsault, Pinot noir, Syrah and Chenin blanc. A bit left field, very quaffable and lots of fun. Expect lots of wild strawberry and cherry, undertones of tobacco and earthiness - an absolute delight!". 💯

We've asked our team about what great bottles they'd recently enjoyed from our range. They've all come up with some real crackers! 💯 Let's start with Brendan - the handsome guy in the picture above - from our Kew shop. 😎 "What have you picked Brendan?" For me two wines that always surprise me or simply just please me, time and time again. 🍾Albert Bichot, 'Pure' Crémant de Bourgogne When I don't feel like spending crazy money selecting a champagne, this is my go to. Delicate, light and fresh yet has enough weight to it to enjoy pre dinner or whilst eating. Absolute cracker! 💃Ca N'Estruc, Idoia Love tasting wines from grapes that I'm not familiar with so to have this Xarel - lo, white Grenache, Chardonnay blend is an adventure. Love the weight and complexity without being too heavy. Modern label and a story behind it so one that I'm always happy to have in the fridge door or any part of the fridge!

Have you ever tried Gamaret? 🤔 Well, if not you're probably not the only one. 😅 🍇While mainly found in Switzerland with limited plantings, it is an interesting ingredient (80%) of this delicious "Ici et La" wine from talented and Fleurie-based winegrower Anne-Sophie Dubois. 🙅♀️Anne-Sophie trained with icons like Henry Jayer in Volnay, before setting up her own project. Her estate comprises 8ha in Les Labourons, in Fleurie, mostly on granite soils. ✔️Everything in the vineyard and in the winery is done with minimal intervention (no chemical pesticides, no filtration, only indigenous yeasts and minimal SO2). 🍷Intense small black fruit and spicy notes are complemented by refreshing acidity and very smooth tannins. Real presence on the palate, without any sense of heaviness, with a savoury crunchy finish. Cheers!
This Criolla is a little like three different noble grapes rolled into one: scented like Nebbiolo, juicy like Grenache and crunchy red fruit like Pinot noir. 🍷 The Criolla vines were brought into Argentina by Jesuits in the XVI Century to produce their wines for religious celebrations. "Extremo" because these grapes are grown at a staggering 2.600mt in altitude, at Valles Calchaquies on a vineyard originally planted back in 1898! 😯
Elisabetta Foradori is rightfully considered among the best Italian natural wine producers.💯 Since she took over her family's winery at the age of 19, Elisabetta Foradori has made a life's work of elevating the Teroldego grape to heights once unimaginable.🍇 The much-improved standard Teroldego bottling was joined by a riserva, Granato, in the 1986 vintage, taken from the oldest, still-pergola-trained vines, which gained her international acclaim.🏆 All the vines are farmed biodynamically on the high, sunny foothills and plateaus below the Dolomite peaks in the Trentino region, in the far north of Italy. Elisabetta follows a very hands-off approach to winemaking, using indigenous yeasts, no fining or filtration and only little amounts of sulphites, to encapsulate the most genuine expression of their terroir. ✔️ Alongside Teroldego, she undertook experimentation with Nosiola, another traditional, nearly-extinct grape variety, which is now vinified in handmade, unlined Spanish clay tinajas (amphorae) with its skins for months.💡 Elisabetta’s gradual transformation of the family farming and winemaking over the last 30 years has elicited wines of extraordinary purity, energy and elegance and firmly established Foradori as a standard-bearer for native varieties and a natural approach to winegrowing and winemaking throughout the wine world.🤩 👉Find out more on the producer profile on our website: https://www.thegoodwineshop.co.uk/collections/foradori

Testalonga El Bandito 2018 is a skin contact Chenin Blanc from talented winemaker Craig Hawkins. 💯 Beguiling ripe apple and citrus aromas lead to a powerful, intense palate with nutty and mineral overtones, textural grip and incredible tension. 👌
Every ray of sunshine is a good excuse to pull the cork of a nice and chilled rosé! 😉 A stand-out favourite for its delicacy, freshness and super summery crunchy red fruit and citrus notes, 'Les Voiles' is quintessential Provence rosé! ☀️ It is named after the famous St Tropez Regatta, 'Les Voiles, which translates as 'sails'. ⛵This dry, pale pink rosé might actually be the closest thing to being whisked off to a yacht on the Cote d'Azur... At least this summer! 🙄🥂

Still in his 20's, Jean-Baptiste Souillard made his first vintage in 2014 and is one of the most exciting micro-negoce in the region, crafting elegant, age-worthy vins de garde.👌 Each bottling is expression of a specific vineyard, often as tiny as 0.1ha, carefully chosen for its unique characteristics in terms of soil, microclimate and grape variety. Never over-extracted or bold, his wines are classy, elegant and enticing. A must try! 🎉

Fresh and fruity with notes of wild flowers and tangerine. Giving way to a fresh and rounded palate filled with tropical fruit. 🌼🍊🍍 🥂Domaine Gerovassiliou, Malagousia Epanomi 2019 Bringing Greece to you, with rich aromas of ripe pear, mango and citrus. On the palate the flavours of lemon zest enhance the appealing texture, culminating in a well-balanced finish which does not leave you disappointed. 🍐🥭🌹 🥂Delinquente, Screaming Betty Vermentino 2018 Citrus hits from a clean, crisp and florally lifted band of grapes. This unorthodox looking wine could not be more refined, despite the minimal intervention in the winery. A great Aussie remake of an Italian classic.🍋🌼

Focusing on the vintage's juicy citrus fruit, with some crystalline pear richness, and a chalky, lip-smacking finish. There's so much to enjoy here. 🚀 🍷Combel La Serre, Le Pur Fruit du Causse Cahors 2018 A bright and intense purple colour which is recognisably Malbec - the bramble and the grip. Yet at just 12.5% alcohol it’s a genuine 'vin de soif' and much more approachable than you'd think, pure bright, juicy fruit! 🍇

"Le Pergole Torte" has rightfully played a main part in the history of fine wines from Italy. 💡Son of Sergio Manetti and his friend winemaker Giulio Gambelli, this wine represents the top expression of the 11 ha Montevertine estate. 🍷The first vintage released was 1977. At that time 100% Sangiovese wines couldn't be labelled as Chianti Classico, as the law required Sangiovese to be blended with other varietals, including white grapes. Hence, the idea of declassifying it to "vino da tavola", pioneering the concept of "Super Tuscan" wine. 🔝 Today, Le Pergole Torte not only represents a pinnacle in the production of pure Sangiovese wines, but it is also one of the most terroir-driven, charming and sought-after fine wines from the beautiful Tuscany. 🎉

"Puissance sans poids" can be translated as "Intensity without heaviness". 🍷Tony Bornard's Triffaut - aka Trousseau - enticed us with its beguiling nose of wild strawberries, hibiscus and cloves, as only the best reds from the charming Jura region can do. Although light on its feet, it wakes up your taste buds with its vibrant and juicy character, lingering and lingering for a while after the bottle has vanished! A must try🎉
We're so excited to deal with Miani's wines! It's not just due to the extremely tiny quantities with which their wines are allocated. Enzo Pontoni - the man behind the label - makes indeed some of the best white (and red) wines in Italy. 🇮🇹 His vines are grown on the hills within the Colli Orientali DOC, in Friuli Venezia Giulia (northern Italy). Drastically low yields - only one or two bunches per vine - and extreme care in the winery, result in remarkable depth of flavour and concentrated texture, without any trace of heaviness. A real treat for wine conosseurs... 😉

Today we visited Nicola Ferrari and his wife Laura at @montesantoccio, one of our favourite producers from Valpolicella Classica, in the Veneto region (northern Italy). Just 8ha of vines grown on the hills in the hamlet of Fumane, with the traditional 'pergola' system. Such a pleasure walking through the vineyard, under a clear blue sky, breathing clean air, while enjoying the lake Garda in the background. Theirs are all delicious and polished wines: from the juicy and spicy Valpolicella or the moreish Ripasso, to the structured and complex Amarone. Yet, if you had the chance to try their Ammandorlato 'Stella' - named after their first daughter - you'd fall in love... it's just pure joy in a glass!
