EL RELOJ DEL ABUELO Portada de una edición inglesa de la canción “Grandfather's Clock”, escrita en 1876 por el estadounidense Henry Clay Work (1832-1884), autor que ya había alcanzado el éxito una década antes con "Marching Through Georgia". En “El reloj del abuelo”, un nieto cuenta en primera persona la historia de un gran reloj de pie comprado el mismo día del nacimiento del abuelo y que dejó de funcionar con su fallecimiento, 90 años después. Originally composed in 1876 by Henry Clay Work, and popularized by the legendary artists Sam Cooke, Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby amongst others - it was translated into Japanese, quickly becoming a hit there where Mamiko grew up hearing it often as a child. Over a million copies have been sold of the original sheet music and it has been interpreted in various formats on acoustic guitar, piano, flute. FACT: the name ‘grandfather clock was adopted for the longcase clock after Henry Clay Work’s song became popular around the world. The song, is told from a grandchild’s point of view. The clock is purchased on the morning of the grandfather’s birth and works perfectly for 90 years, requiring only that it be wound at the end of each week.
