Yesterday we started our AI breeding process. It takes three separate, carefully timed procedures. Artificial insemination allows for small producers like us to access superior genetics without the cost prohibitive requirements of buying expensive seed-stock bulls. Yesterday we day tripped to Jane Lew, WV to return our leased bull to his home at Cedar Hill Red Angus. We really liked this bull - he had great disposition. We will preg check soon and start our spring herd work in a couple weeks... tagging, weighing, weaning and vaccinations. We had four heifers this fall that we will retain which will put us at 15 registered females for the year. We have been working towards this for so long.
