It's rare for me to have a less than sublime weekend at a race track. But this last weekend at Sonoma Raceway was....lets just say a learning experience. I found out pretty quickly that we had some sort of ABS issue. Sonoma is not the place to be blindsided by this. After a close call during my second session on Saturday, I tried raising the front ride height, cleaned ABS sensors and braking earlier. That helped but still had a moment during the final session. Sunday I couldn't drive the car. I just didn't have confidence in the brakes and didn't want to risk any more "moments". I drove the ring road testing different pads and ABS modules. Nothing helped. At the very least, I know the ABS pump is bad and have a plan for the solution. The car won't see the track again till this ABS issue has been sorted. I apologize to my driving peers for the close calls and appreciate everyone's support and fast hands. Thank you to @nasanorcal for a fantastic event as always. A huge shout out to @aharrell12 for driving from Sacramento to bring me a new set of tires after flat spotting the only set I brought for the weekend. At the end of the day, I still had a fantastic time hanging out with great people and fast cars. I wish the e36 and myself would of had a more representative weekend but thats racing! And quite honestly, the car drove really well....just couldn't stop very well 🙃 We will come back faster, safer, stronger. I want to start this post off by saying thank you t0o Josh at @hmbmotorwerks And Daniel at @chaoscalibrations these two were helping me non stop and worked hard to help me get ready for the race weekend. Without their time and dedication the car wouldn't have even made it on the trailer to the event and I'm forever grateful that I've met them through my journey as a motorsport's enthusiast. Wow! That was a tough weekend! Leading up to @nasanorcal at Sonoma Raceway I was devoting any time I had to getting the e36 ready for its debut at Nasa. Well after four sessions(two driven by me, two by @mxdave ) both wheel bearing spectacularly failed within the session. We tried replacing them track side thanks to a kind gentleman with a hydraulic press but unfortunately when I pressed the new hub in it blew out the inner race because I didnt support the backside of the bearing. A rookie mistake but one I wont make again. That unfortunate situation basically stopped us from driving on Sunday. But as many have said before, "thats racing🤷♂️" All that being said, What a car! I ran a 2.00.26 without even stressing the car out. There's something to be said about a light weight car. ( #2400lbs with a half tank of fuel, 600lbs less than the e46) I'm greatful for the short amout of time that we did get to drive and we learned alot about what we need to change for the next event coming up in April at Thunderhill East. On January 29 I got the privilege to drive the unique 5 mile double bypass layout at @thunderhillracewaypark and let me tell you... it's wild and honestly probably my favorite way to experience Thunderhill. 2021 was a year that I will always look back on with a smile on my face. We had a very successful Time Trial season with @nasanorcal securing 7th place for the overall season and blast driving with @turn8racing and made friends and memories along the way. I couldn't be happier with how the e46 has developed over the last few years but in 2021 the car exceeded any expectations that I had for it. With this car we've taken everything that we've learned with the e46 and applied it to this build with the main difference being a severe drop in weight. I'm talking isc suspension N1 coilovers, full poly bushings provided by AKG Motorsport and a quality tune by the best, Chaos Calibrations. This car is B-A-N-A-N-A-S. @chaoscalibrations blew my damn mind with this one. After adding a set of long tube headers Daniel worked his magic and unlocked a whole new car. I didn't really get a clean lap but that being said...I ran a 1.57.67 slipping and sliding on cording RR's. E36 M3 in for suspension overhaul. Fitted a set of our favorite street coilovers, the @bilsteinus PSS9 system. Dropped the rear subframe, welded up the rtab pockets, fitted @akgmotorsport subframe, differential, trailing arm and front control arm bushings, and new Lemfoerder rear upper/lower outer ball joints. Then added a set of @hrspringslp sway bars. This is our go to setup for street e36 and e46 cars. I drove in the race class for Time Attack and was happily surprised when I found out I placed 3rd and ran a 1.30.04 at Thunderhill West! I've driven this track a dozen times but never with a transponder. Now a can't go back. This was probably one of the best track weekends that @mxdave and I have ever had. If I wasn't the best, it definitely was the fastest. The car worked impeccably well. I was able slice my PB from 2.12.05 to a solid 2.08.5!!! Still waiting for the official results but the provisional results claim that I got 2nd place on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday😁😬😁. But honestly what made this weekend so great was that we're starting to reap the benefits of all the hard work that has gone into this car.
