Chief Justice Mussarat Hilali of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has achieved a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to be appointed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, unanimously approved her elevation in a recent meeting. Justice Hilali's appointment marks a historic moment for KP, as she becomes the first woman from the province to serve as a judge in the country's apex court. She is the second woman in Pakistan's history to be elevated to the Supreme Court, following Justice Ayesha Malik, who was appointed in January of the previous year. The JCP, a constitutional body responsible for judicial appointments, including the Supreme Court, high courts, and the Federal Shariat Court, consists of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, the next four senior-most judges, a former chief justice or Supreme Court judge, the law minister, the attorney general, and a senior Supreme Court advocate nominated by the Pakistan Bar Council. Currently, the Supreme Court is functioning with 15 judges, including the Chief Justice, out of a sanctioned strength of 17 judges. Justice Qazi Faez Isa, a senior judge of the Supreme Court, recently urged Chief Justice Bandial to convene a meeting of the JCP to fill the vacant positions on the bench. Ms. Ramsha Azhar is a dynamic Bint-e-Hawa lady. In 2014 she started professional photography in Peshawar when there was hardly any female photographer present in the city and KP. She worked hard and learned the skills. Meanwhile, she provided her services of photography in different cities of KP. By 2018, lots of females contacted her to learn the skill and work as photographers. She mentored them and we are now one of the pioneers of the female photographer’s team in KP working under the brand name of ‘Ramshaas Photoworks’ PVT LTD. Now they have 10-15 Professional female photographers and videographers on board. We have worked with many big brands up until now i.e Shaukat Khanum, Gandhara Medical College, North West General Hospital, IMSciences Peshawar, etc. Ramsha herself has broken the stereotype of considering women in the field of media. Everyone has this perception that media is only for males and they can excel and create careers in it. She by her actions and efforts of almost 10 years now has set this example that women can be professional camera handlers. She has provided several mentoring sessions and training to girls and boys. She has always been the source of guidance and inspiration for young minds out there. She has worked with USAID and Ranna child welfare organization as a photography trainer. Meet Ms. Zahra Babar a passionate Bint-e-Hawa lady and co-founder owner of Soiree PR & Events. 12 years of event planning and successfully executed 350 plus events and proud to be the first female event organizer in KP. Here is a quick snapshot of her career! She started the journey in event planning during her 6th semester because she felt that Peshawar needed better events, especially for women. She began by organizing all-girls events, and eventually expanded to include family events.
