And another share from Saturday: I had a fun time attending Nate Butler's Silent Movie Night at Vista. Starting with the great nostalgia of childhood cartoons and then into the feature movie from Harold Lloyd "The Kid Brother" - so funny! It's nice to get away and safely enjoy (Tony and I still carefully pick and choose what we'll attend fully masked) fun stuff to help me not think about my wait for my PET/CT scan results I'll finally get tomorrow (along with another series of blood draws - ouch). I am a bit anxious and trying to keep my mind and heart calm. The wait is unfortunate, but I appreciate the doctors making sure of the results. For now, I'm going to listen to a fun podcast to make me think of something else. This show continues through Oct. 27th at Sorensen Gallery, Downtown Fresno, and showcases art that represents the cancer experience. Whew! Still in Remission! Yay! We spent all morning at the Cancer Center doing my bloodwork and meeting with my oncologist. I ate some breakfast prior to leaving, but I still felt a bit lightheaded after the blood draw, plus a migraine headache didn't help. I didn't notice how many viles they took out of me this time. The place was overflowing with people all waiting for appointments (I wish it were empty for so many reasons - it's always so sad to see how many people are affected by Cancer). Finally hearing my oncologist say my PET/CT scan was clear and my bloodwork looked good was a relief! The nurses' stations leading into the doctors' rooms were all decked out for Halloween with candy dishes full for trick or treating - so I did!, (I already ate the 100 Grand and Kit Kat bars in the car as we left). To celebrate, on our way home we stopped in at Eddie's Bakery again. This time I chose a cheese danish and chocolate cupcake (I ate the cheese danish on the drive home) and Tony also got a cheese danish and a bear claw. A blue bandage for today and some take home reading material. October 3rd and it's my PET/CT Scan Prep Day. So many food/drink restrictions for 24 hours and then fasting. Unbelievably, the hardest restriction is no physical activity. Yesterday was another productive day in L.A. The primary reason for this trip was for me to speak about my art at Gallery 825. But first, we left in the early dark morning hours to get in some time at the Union Station for the Train Show – where Tony could see the actual trains on the tracks, Union Station (he had never been!) and all the displays inside. We arrived at the start of the day and didn’t quite expect how very large the crowds would be. The lines to see the big trains were over 2 hours wait time already, which wouldn’t really give us enough time to enjoy before needing to leave. So Tony decided we would just take in all the indoor and outdoor displays along with Union Station itself. I also took Tony to Olvera Street to see a monument marker I had told him about before. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time for much else there. Then we drove on to Gallery 825 so that I could participate in the Artist Talk scheduled for this day. I, along with other artists whose works are featured in the “Supersense” show (running through Friday, Sept. 15th and you can see my art online here: https://www.laaa.org/supersense/c-hs29r?fbclid=IwAR0lS3XJiFJCzgcW2YS8SoRKz9Vi49cBF8oJcbPWd17Tl1fH86Nt5LEaPD0) and 2 of the artists with solo shows in the gallery, were asked to speak about our work to the crowds who attended. It went well! And I was able to have another meaningful conversation with the curator who chose my work and wants to see more of my art in the future. We decided to get a bite to eat following this event, across the street at one of our L.A. faves Vito’s. Tony had a chicken parm entrée with salad and I had a Francis slice (a margarita with pepperoni!) and their indulgent chocolate mousse! After enjoying our outdoor solitary dining, we left for our next thing. We stopped off to get some flowers and a card for our dear friend Les. We wanted to leave them for him to find for his Opening Night. Since we unfortunately couldn’t stay to see the show this day, we wanted to at least let him know that we were thinking of him. Another memorable day in L.A. yesterday – yes, we got out before the storm/hurricane effects and apparently an earthquake today too! My main reason for going was to attend the reception for “Supersense” at the Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825 in which my art work “I am curves of Earth” is included! Our director of Gallery 825 introduced me to the curator and we had a very meaningful and productive chat. In the weeks prior, I had been researching who she is and found that she is based in Italy and is specifically focused on creating a relationship between Italy and California art. I also found out that my piece was 1 of only 18 she selected for this show! She said she had been following my work and encouraged me in a specific direction. She also wants me to keep in contact with her and send her images of future work! I also had time to enjoy all the art and talking with fellow new and already friend artists. (side note: The previous Saturday when I delivered my work for this show, I had also delivered another of my works “finding my place” as it had SOLD through a different LAAA/Gallery 825 show and was picked up during this last week! My gallery is happy with me.) Tony and I spent a couple of hours here and then decided to leave to catch a few other moments before heading home. I asked Tony where he’d like to go and he decided on Griffith Observatory, definitely a favorite place to visit. On our way driving into the park there was a backup of traffic and signs suggesting alternative parking/shuttle rides due to the concert happening that night at The Greek. We proceeded anyway, since we thought perhaps beyond there we could still find parking. But, halfway up there were traffic control people diverting cars to park off a different road downhill. We stopped to ask if we could still go up since we’re going to the Observatory. This is where the fun entered (well we laughed anyway!). The official looked at us and said since we are seniors
