When I returned from Indonesia last year, I thought I would take some time off, but the universe had other plans for me in multiple ways. From January till now @didomichielsen and I have been preparing an exhibition for the upcoming @tongtongfair❣️The final designs are being made as I write this and I am looking forward to the exhibition “The white kebaya, her wearers and their stories” {De witte kebaya, haar draagsters en hun verhalen} from 24 May till 2 June at Tong Tong Fair on the Malieveld in Den Haag (NL). 🤍🤍🤍 This exhibition would not be made possible without the initial support of @houdjeerfgoedlevend to start our researchproject “The meaning of the white kebaya” that we launched last September and will conclude next September with an event 💝 The interest of Tong Tong Fair to put our ungoing research into a exhibition highlighting the kebayas still kept by families, their design team & of course @mondriaanfonds 🥳 I am very happy I can do this project & exhibition together with Dido and exciting about what is next💝 🤍🤍🤍 The last few months Kebaya owners have been interviewed, Kebayas have been looked at by experts, picked up, measured and documented, databases have been strolled, old photos have been photographed, requested and gathered into a timeline, books & articles have been read & texts have been written. 🤍🤍🤍 In this post more behind the scenes: Photographing wearers of white kebaya at home (photo 1) and together with Koen (photo 9 by Cindy Smits) Researching the kebaya’s in more detail (photo 2, 6, 8, 10) and exploring the lace with lace-expert Frieda Sorber (photo 7) Using the study collection to look at late 19th and early 20th century European clothing with lace (photo 3 & video 4) Visiting ‘Echo: Wrapped in Memory’ at @momuantwerp as inspiration for our exhibition (photo 5) 🤍🤍 Our research is far from done and we will continue our project after the exhibition. Izložba praških umetnika, pod nazivom Das Untere Licht / Unutrašnje svetlo (The Light From Below), inspirisana je svetlom i njegovim mnogobrojnim formama i biće predstavljena beogradskoj publici od 10 do 17. maja 2024. godine u prostoru Kule. Izložba obuhvata radove iz oblasti fotografije, slikarstva i skulpture, kroz koje tri prijatelja, saradnika i umetnika iz Praga - Antonín Malý, Jan Miko i Kuba Tauš, predstavljaju svoje umetničke inovacije i pomeraju granice tradicionalnih umetničkih formi izazivajući gledaoce da posmatraju svet na nov i neočekivan način. “Das Untere Licht” služi kao testament njihovoj kolektivnoj viziji, pružajući publici uvid u skrivene dubine ljudske duše. Fotograf, Antonín Malý Jr. predstavlja svoj rad na dva nivoa. Ekspresivno slikarstvo kroz upotrebu digitalnog fotoaparata sa različitim izvorima svetla, stvara subjektivno duhovne slike pune svetlosnih obrta i alegorija. Jan Miko na ovoj izložbi predstavlja kolekciju slika koje reinterpretiraju inspiraciju podzemnim industrijskim svetlima međunarodnih metro stanica u New Yorku, Berlinu, Parizu, Beču, itd. Mikove slike sadrže poseban magnetski pesak, fluorescentne boje koje svetle u mraku i zlatnu prašinu, što predstavlja još jedno iznenađenje u njegovom trenutnom umetničkom stvaralaštvu. Kuba Tauš reinkarnira stare objekte u nove, koji samim tim svetu daju novu svetlost. Tauševa svetla, skulpture, prostorne instalacije, sklonost ka zanatskoj obradi i reciklaži, odgovor su na svet u kome je tehnologija izrazito razvijena, svet pun prekomernih materijala i neprekidne produkcije. Radove prate I cvetne instalacije Nine Lazić. Cvet u sjaju unutrašnje svetlosti svojim mirisom i lepotom upotpunjuje organsko-industrijski apstraktni svet slika, svetlosnih panoa, fotografije i skulptura. I slika i cvet su izvor svakodnevnih malih radosti.
