These Ladies went to battle !! Playing in 2 different divisions with only 8 girls who made the trip out to Pennsylvania. Yesterday started off Winning back to back playoff games to advance to the semi finals in Each division. I've said DEFENSE Wins game and it sure did. Unfortunately the semi finals games were immediately after our 2nd games win with no break vs a teams first game of the day. With 7 girls due to 1 injury. They had no legs or energy. Falling short in the semi finals and nothing wrong with that. They showed HEART in each game they played. First away tournament for these Ladies and what an experience. All season telling them to be aggressive and dammm im one happy coach. Fighting for loose balls on the floor each game all game long. Earning those bruises and bumps. Busted lips and noses and Playing aggressive. 9th grade Started off Nationals with a big Win !! 2nd game back to back came up short. I always say FREE THROWS wins games and missing free throws will get a loss. 8-0 run in the final few mins to be down 2. We missed 8 free throws in the final 3 mins of the game. Dont even want to know how many the whole game. Lost to ourselves but Proud of all these Ladies. These Ladies battled this weekend. Game 1 lost by 5 to a team who beat them by 20 2 weeks ago. Back and forth game. Game 2 huge WIN by 15 points. Game 3 today Double Overtime loss by 2 Points where they were down 5 with 17 seconds left steal layup. Forced a TO then banged a 3 at the buzzer for OT. Ref called off a game tying layup in double OT that would of put them in Suddem Death. The shot was definitely out her hands before the buzzer. Heartbreaker. Game 4 which was immediately after the double ot game lost by 3 points they just had no legs throughout the game. Overall I couldn't of asked for anything else. 3 games where we had a chance to win in the final mins of the games. Last 2 Practices have been great and these Ladies sure showed up to play this weekend. Sometimes the outcome isn't what we want but the way they played together as a team is what matters. Definitely a fun weekend to Coach with these Ladies !!! Learn from the little mistakes and get better together. Senior Night for @mia.mitchell22 a few months ago !! Saved this pic for May 8th as today 2 years ago she helped win her team and the Lady Armour program a state championship. I had the honor to be the freshman coach at Mia's high school this past winter and got to see her put in work everyday. A True LEADER who practices like its game time. Mia asked me during Varsity practice in December how I liked coaching the freshman as it was different then aau with alot of the girls just learning how to play play. I said it's tough but fun at the same time. That I love to teach and watch them get better. So i asked her how is it being and OG with a new starting 5 as 4 of her starters the year before graduated. Mia said it's weird but she's up for the challenge being one of the 2 Leaders of the team. Mia is one of the toughest players to ever wear the Lady Armour Purple. Dropping 20 plus point games each weekend. Her physical tough hard Defense from start to finish will always be remembered and of course that Smile. It was an honor to watch and help coach you in your senior year. Lost in the Championship by a few points to a team we beat the day before. A hard fought game as these Ladies sure put on a show !! Tough when one ref doesn't let the girls play basketball. Made a bunch of bad calls on one of our girls who was locking up there best player all game long and let the parents tell him to blow his whistle. Forced our player to foul out the game. The other ref who refs Womens College basketball even said they were not fouls and telling the player and parents she needs to LEARN to fight through great hard defense. Middle School girls balled out today!! Only 5 girls but they sure played hard !! Down 1 with 25 seconds left after a bad turnover. We put on the press and got a quick steal then 1 dribble and layup to take the lead by 1 point and won the game !! Then fell short the 2nd game but they kept fighting with no subs!! Got their shots up but didn't fall. Can't be upset at that aslong as they played together and got good shots. HUGE IMPROVEMENT from the first weekend. Showing Up to Practice makes you better!! Over the last couple weeks I've talked to a bunch of coaches I've known and met over the years and they said they have kids missing practices. Few coaches said that their top team or elite team everyone shows up ready to work. But the lower teams everyone misses and is behind. That's the difference from playing at the next level. Playing at a competitive level. Players will NOT miss any summer practices or scrimmage games with their high schools but will miss aau practices and tournaments for no reason. Opportunities to play in front of college coaches but you miss that chance to go play a summer HS game. Play every chance you can but take the BETTER OPPORTUNITY. The better Experience. No body is good enough to miss Practice or Workouts when you miss it for no reason at all. Put in that work with coaches and people who want the best for you and want to get you to the next level. If you can make everything work with multiple activities GO DO IT !!! Your only a young athlete once. I'll be supporting you no matter what!! Remember your only a Number on different teams. YOUR NAME AND WHO YOU ARE what we care about more. Certain Adults will lie to make them look better. I do it so kids can get better at what they love. Give your time and energy to people who care about YOU as a Person and Player not just a number on the roster to fill space. First weekend in the books ! Started at 8 AM yesterday with the 8th Grade then 12 hours later at 8PM with the Varsity. Another long day today with ALOT OF NEW FACES wearing the Lady Armour Purple. And you did your thing. Over the years we had you sit on the bench with us and play in some games. Last spring you had to start in our 10th grade state championship game as a 5th grader. You have improved soo much over the years. This past winter I finally was able to coach you in town travel at your grade level. You stepped up as a leader on the team. You took everything you have learned over the years in helping the other girls on the team on and off the court. Watching you as your coach take over games was definitely fun to be apart of while coaching. Sitting here on my BIRTHDAY thinking 1 whole year has already passed. I couldn't have asked for a better year. So many new relationships and connections were made. Many battles out there on the court with returning and new young Ladies who love the game of basketball. Won a State and a National Championship when many haters didn't think it would ever happen.
