Lamian's first stop! Village nasi lemak for some famous nasi lemak. This place must be really famous because it's super crowded when lamian went in the morning. It can be quite overwhelming and chaotic but thankfully a nice lady told lamian's human to just go in and get a table, else we'll be waiting outside helplessly ๐ While the rice was okay - not as fragrant as lamian expected, the fried chicken was really crispy and tasty! It's mid-autumn festival today! It's the day the moon is bright and round ๐ and the day you enjoy some mooncakes! Lamian enjoyed mooncakes from @raffleshotelsingapore and @haitienlo and they were delicious! It was the first time lamian tried the yuzu snowskin mooncakes and raspberry sakura snowskin mooncake from raffles hotel and they were good ๐ the yuzu one was a bit sour for lamian but lamian's family liked that it was refreshing. Another local food Friday for Lamian. Lamian has been having Koung's wanton mee fairly often recently because the uncle and aunties would be retiring soon.. lamian likes the wanton mee here because the noodles are different from the normal thinner and more stringy egg noodles you get at other places. The noodles are a little thicker and smoother here. The char siew here is also really nice! Flavourful and soft. And the wanton is also decently packed with meat so it doesn't feel like you're eating mostly the dumpling skin. Strongly recommended! Lamian tried a new place for dinner today - @whitehouseteochewporridge but lamian didn't realise it closes at 9pm, so there wasn't much food left ๐ but lamian enjoyed the food. The porridge was well-cooked, not overly watery. The braised duck was also really good ๐ together with the hae bee hiam, which was quite special and different from others lamian has tasted. Lamian was also lucky to get the last piece of the fish cake which lamian's human liked. Chasing the Monday blues with some fried chicken. Lamian first tried BHC chicken some time back and kept returning after (especially since the queue situation has died down!). Lamian thinks this might be lamian's favourite fried chicken now because the skin is nicely crispy, and the meat is nicely tender and juicy ๐ Lamian has tried three flavours so far - macho king (in the picture) bburinkle and retro. Lamian's favourite is the retro one. It may look unexciting and plain, but the batter for the chicken is nicely seasoned so it's also flavourful and not too "jelak" (like you wouldn't get sick of it from eating too much). The macho is nice too for those who like a bit more spice. The other favourite that lamian always gets here is the sotteok! The sausage and rice cake skewers are really fun to eat and delicious. Because of the sauce coating and the grilling, the rice cakes are a little "crispy" on the outside and soft, and chewy inside. But lamian just wants to caution everybody that they sell the chicken portions BIG! Lamian ordered one big chilli crab and it was so delicious ๐ the crab was fleshy and fresh! So when you peel out the shell, the meat doesn't stick to the shell ๐ the chilli crab sauce was also really good, so if you're eating here, lamian recommends getting more mantou to go with the sauce. The other highlight for lamian was the unassuming ๅๅคงๅคฉ็ (the heavenly four) vegetable. It contained ladies fingers, Brinjal, long beans and petai (also known as smelly/stink bean). Lamian finally got to try the mochi donuts at @misterdonut.sg and finally understands the hype around it. The mochi texture was not overly chewy and gave the donut a nice bite which was really different from your normal donuts. Of all the 4 flavours, lamian thinks the strawberry was the best - looks sweet but it's not! It has a nice hint of strawberry fragrance and the tartness of the strawberry. Lamian visited @surreyhillsgrocer.sg for lamian's birthday dinner and really enjoyed the hearty portions here! Their fusion pastas were really good. Lamian had the laksa pasta which really had a nice legit laksa flavour that went well with the pasta noodles. The chilli crab was also pretty legit! Lamian had breakfast at Knotted today and the donuts here are really good! Lamian tried the strawberry one for dessert yesterday and the chocolate mint one today and both were great! Lamian finally had a chance to try the famous @fergburgerqueenstown! The queues were so long, and Lamian could see why. The burgers had such fresh and delicious ingredients! Lamianโs humans tried โThe Fergburgerโ and โChief Wiggumโ as well as the brownie milkshake (we got the last milkshakes in the house!) and were wowed by the meat Patties. Lamian made it to the viewing point of Roy's Peak which was quite a hike! The hike was steep and there weren't any clear path which made it a bit more challenging. Lamian's humans managed to get a train ticket and thanks to that, lamian got to spend the last weekend in JB! This time, lamian went to @beans.factory_malaysia for desserts! Lamian was supposed to order one, but was tempted by the many options and got two instead! The first was the signature which had tauhuay (soy bean pudding?) and grass jelly topped with peach gum and taro balls. Paired with the brown sugar sauce, this was really tasty! Not too sweet ๐ but somehow the smaller taro balls were more chewy compared to the bigger ones... The second is for black sesame fans... it had grass jelly, black sesame shaved ice and black sesame taro balls. The hot weather in Singapore today is reminding lamian of lamian's trip to Penang and the delicious food lamian had there! Lamian really misses the octopus and orh luak at New Lane ๐ if you're heading there, lamian strongly recommends the octopus. Don't be deceived by it's simple presentation. Lamian heard that this Char Kway Teow is really famous and headed down to try just before it closed for the day! Lamian was lucky to get one of the last few plates. The char kway teow here is not bad in taste, and had the nice smokey taste to it because it was fried with charcoal. But the noodles are a bit too wet and oily for lamian's liking. Maybe if it had bit more charred taste and less oily it'll be better ๐ but do come early if you want to try as there'll be a queue and if you come too late, there may be none left! But when lamian reached the coffee shop for lunch, lamian saw a really long queue for this chicken rice and all the locals were enjoying this dish - almost every table was having it! After trying, lamian could see why... the chicken was nicely cooked. Tender and flavourful and wasn't undercooked with the meat slightly red. So this is good for those who don't like their meat looking reddish/bloody! The rice was also nicely fragrant which reminded lamian of lamian's mother's chicken rice. But Lamian heard that Malaysia will be baning the export of poultry from 1 Jun to ensure that there is enough for their domestic supply. It's been so hot in Singapore (feels even hotter than Penang!) that lamian is really craving for these cold treats from Creme de la Creme ๐ these desserts are actually ice cream! On top of the normal ice cream scooped treats served at ice cream shops, @mycdlc also have these treats where the ice cream is shaped. So underneath the chocolate exterior of the shou tao (longevity peach) and log and cherry is a delicious ice cream treat. There weren't many stalls selling this... lamian even made a wasted trip down to the famous Sister Yao's but the stall was closed. Little did lamian know that there was a stall selling this delicious carrot cake near where lamian was staying. The carrot cake was more firm compared to the Singapore version. And they only have it fried in black sauce. The smokey taste from the fire added a nice touch to the dish. Lamian enjoyed these delicious dacquoises from @luminyoyo on this day to celebrate mothers and am very happy to know that lamian's mother likes it too ๐ something different from cakes, and it's a pretty light dessert to enjoy after a heavy dinner. It's the first time lamian's family have dacquoise and you can imagine the pastry to be like a kueh bahulu. All the flavours were nice, but some of the top picks were the matcha and the injeolmi. Lamian hopes lamian's friends celebrating Hari Raya is having a good day visiting after 2 years of disrupted celebrations ๐ lamian enjoyed these 2 boxes of delicious macarons (which came with a really cute ketupat!) from @annabellapatisserie Lamian liked that the macarons were not overly sweet and had really interesting, experimental flavours ๐ lamian's human shared that this macaron is the closest to the really delicious one she had in Paris ๐ the shell was crispy but still had a nice chewy texture to it. Lamian really liked the gummy bear flavour ๐ป the Earl Grey was good too! You can get these delicious macarons at Takashimaya - they'll be there till 9 May! It's so hot today after a super rainy night with many lightnings ๐ฉ lamian could really do with a Yubari melon soft serve from Mcdonalds now ๐ this may just be lamian's favourite flavour from Macs. Here are the pool photos! Lamian had a great time at the pool of @fullertonbayhotelsg the pool design was really unique! It was the first time lamian got to relax on a deck chair in a pool โบ but lamian's human didn't know we were heading to Fullerton Bay Hotel for a staycation (it was a surprise!) and forgot to bring lamian's float ๐ญ lamian was so sad about this but still enjoyed the pool thoroughly. Lamian did a staycation at a new hotel this time - Fullerton Bay Hotel! The view is really good so lamian and friends were sitting in the room and admiring the view for most of the time. The room was really big and spacious. The mini bar was well stocked. Lamian's human really enjoyed the speaker which they said was of really good quality. The bath tub was really big and luxurious. #throwback to last week when lamian got to try these handmade kuehs! Lamian's human have been trying to get these several times but was unable to, until last Friday! The kuehs were very colourful, well-made and fresh! Lamian's favourite was the abok abok sagu with the gula melaka, and the lapis sagu (the rainbow coloured one ๐ ๐). The kueh texture was Q and very fragrant which brings joy to the various senses. The kueh salat was good too, but lamian would like it with a bit more rice cos lamian likes the blue-ish rice ๐ The box was really big but the variety in the box was great as lamian's family all had different favourites. Here's one of lamian's favourite toasts to have - honey butter toast from @thehainanstory ๐ a cup of tea/coffee, two half boiled eggs and toasts is a typical breakfast dish here, although you can have it throughout the day too ๐ Lamian liked the toast here so much, lamian came back to have it again the very next day and the following week! The toast was nicely toasted, and was light and fluffy. Imagine a thick cut of French toast hahah! And the mix of honey and butter was a nice combination of sweet and salty! Lamian really likes the butter cake here that's light and fluffy with the nice buttery fragrance that's not too overpowering. After all the feasting over CNY, lamian had to take a lot of cooling food to quell the heatiness. So lamian was very happy to hear of the chrysanthemum aiyu jelly from @ninefresh Lamian likes to have ninefresh desserts that are very hearty in its portions, taste good and affordable at the same time ๐ The chrysanthemum aiyu jelly has hints of the floral taste and fragrance which made it a joy to eat. It has been a pretty cold and rainy two days here in Singapore, and that made lamian crave for some hot soupy food. Lamian recently discovered a new mala soup place - Yang Guo Fu! Their mala broth is different from most places as it has a beef broth base so it's more flavourful and thicker. Lamian also likes that the range of ingredients here are really wide and are of pretty good quality! The fish is thick and fresh, and if you are going to get noodles, lamian recommends that you get the handmade noodles. Oh! What are you having for dinner! #Throwback to lamian's ไบบๆฅ dinner feast on Monday where lamian had this delicious rojak for dinner. Rojak is a mix of different fruits, cuttlefish/jellyfish, taukua (firm tofu) and youtiao (dough fritters) mixed in a sauce and peanut. Lamian got to attend the River Hongbao on its last day. While the rain threatened to make the visit less enjoyable, lamian enjoyed the visit nonetheless. Lamian suddenly remembered that @playmadeonezo had their special pearls for #chinesenewyear! The โjia jiaโ pearl really tasted like the โjia jiaโ herbal tea, and it made Lamian feel more healthy after all the heaty Chinese New Year goodies๐ Lamian also tried the coconut pearl, which didnโt taste very strong at first, but then the sweet taste of coconut flesh became quite strong in the aftertaste!
