58,000 plus lamp repairs have taken their toll over the years, and recent injuries have shown me the time has come to slow down and do some recovering. That, and other circumstances beyond my control has brought me to the decision to permanently close the shop on Ocean Street this summer. I will take a nice long break, do some mending, and hopefully, if all goes well, I can start taking appointments in the fall for repairs on a much slower pace in a much smaller workshop. I love glass and I love colour! This Venetian millefiori glass lamp was a beautiful combination of both but it arrived at The Repair Shop in dreadful condition, just about holding together with old tape and failing adhesives. I could immediately see its potential and recognise what a beautiful object it had been. It was much loved and still in daily use despite its precarious condition. This was a wonderful challenge and tested my glass conservation skills. The glass was dismantled, cleaned and reassembled and once put back together was stable and safe to use, hopefully for many more years to come.
