Drosera peltata's home range extends from Victoria to New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia. In the Leigh Catchment, this unique plant thrives in the moist, nutrient-poor habitats of Southern Ballarat where it plays a vital role in the local ecosystem. 🌍 As a carnivore, Drosera peltata has evolved a remarkable adaptation - its leaves are covered in sticky, glandular tentacles that can quickly trap and digest small insects. This provides the plant with the additional nutrients it needs to survive in challenging environments. The presence of Drosera peltata is an important indicator of the health of the wetland habitats in which it grows. It also serves as a food source for various insects and small animals, making it a crucial part of the local food web. Despite its widespread distribution, Drosera peltata is considered a species of conservation concern in some regions due to habitat loss and degradation. Today, we had the privilege of visiting the banding station at Bear Divide, a narrow pass in the San Gabriel Mountains that is home to thousands of migrating birds every spring. The amazing folks working there @beardividebanding were trapping, banding, recording data, then releasing birds, but not before sharing their wonder up close with so many reverent visitors. They were also so generous in sharing their wealth of knowledge! We saw so many birds, including Wilson’s Warbler, Western Tanager, Rufous Hummungbird, MacGIllivray Warbler, Orange Crowned Warbler, Warbling Vireo, and others!

Happy International Crow and Raven Appreciation Day! 🖤 This day celebrates crows and ravens, two of the most intelligent and often misunderstood birds in the avian world. Crows and ravens, part of the Corvidae family, are renowned for their exceptional intelligence, problem-solving skills, and complex social dynamics. Observing their social behavior and listening to their calls can be vital in differentiating between these two fascinating birds. You can more confidently distinguish between a crow and a raven by paying attention to these characteristics – size, tail shape, beak size, vocalizations, flight patterns, and social behavior. The first and most noticeable difference lies in their size and build. Ravens are generally larger and heftier than crows, with a more robust, muscular appearance. A typical raven is about the size of a Red-tailed Hawk, while crows are closer in size to pigeons. While observing them, notice the differences in their tails: ravens have longer, wedge-shaped tails that appear diamond-like, whereas crows have shorter, rounded tails. Another notable feature is their beaks; ravens are thicker and more powerful than crows' relatively slimmer ones. The differences extend beyond physical appearance to their vocalizations and behavior. Ravens are known for their deep, resonant croaking sound, distinctly different from the higher-pitched, more repetitive cawing of crows. In flight, ravens often perform aerial acrobatics, such as somersaults and rolls, which crows are less likely to do. Additionally, ravens are typically more solitary or found in pairs, whereas crows are often seen in larger groups or 'murders,' particularly in urban areas. UK wildlife can be notoriously difficult to film a lot of the time, it would be a lot easier going on safari! 😂 But I really, really hope that you all love it and find it useful in helping you find your own wildlife and inspires you to have your own wildlife adventures! As we really do have so, so much here in the UK right on our doorsteps, we just need to see the beauty around us! And this book is also a celebration of that! Tahun 2005 di Pulau Penjaliran, Taman Nasional Laut Kepulauan Seribu (TNLKS), Jakarta. Bersama @ady_kristanto , @f3_basalamah dan @zidjoel kegiatan Monitoring Pasca Release Elang bondol (Haliastur indus) kerjasama PPS Tegal Alur dan TNLKS. Release elang terbanyak pada waktu itu, 14 individu. Hasil rehabilitasi di Pulau Kotok Besar. Ini momen pelepasliaran kedua setelah sebelumnya 8 individu dilepasliarkan di Pulau Kotok Besar oleh Menteri Kehutanan Bpk. MS. Kaban.
