Debbie’s philosophy about teaching shows it’s not just a paycheck or a service she provides; but that she teaches the science of horsemanship, and she really cares about the rider. I know some of these barns have a very tight community, so I wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t too high pressure where you feel like everyone around you knows so much more. Instead it felt very natural here and everyone was very helpful. Debbie’s teaching style is amazing. I loved when she explained all the mechanics and elements behind why the horse was not doing what I wanted. She showed me simple moves with smaller gestures and cues that were more respectful and humane toward the horse. I thought she was excellent; a breath of fresh air. Four years later he’s ready to get back in the saddle and ride again. His nostalgia for riding western goes back to spending every summer of his childhood in YMCA camps riding horses, so he was excited to rekindle those memories again with us. We love it when a new rider joins us to learn horsemanship, but it’s twice the fun when TWO riders come and try us out together! These two ladies have shared their love for horses since childhood, and, after ten years, are ready to get back in the saddle together! We are so happy that after looking around the area, they chose us to help them rekindle their love for riding! We have many riders that come to learn in pairs and we encourage trying lessons with another rider! Currently, we give lessons to spouses, dating couples, parent and child, and of course, close friends! Today, we added cousins to that list! You may have seen a new face working around the barn weekday mornings. Lantern Lane farm is happy to introduce our newest staff member, Jason Spring, who brings some great experience and skill with him to the job! “I was born and grew up in Northern Virginia taking care of horses at my parents’ boarding stable in Clifton. I’ve always loved animals of all kinds, but horses have a special place in my heart,” he says. Jason graduated from Lookout Mountain Horseshoeing School in Gadsden Alabama, and has been a professional farrier for 10 years. “I love working with animals and knowing that my work helps them live longer, healthier, happier lives.” If you happen to strike up a conversation with him, make sure to ask him about his love for exploring the outdoors. Camping, hiking and fishing are a few that top the list. What’s one unique thing about Jason? “I’ve always had an interest in sci-fi, fantasy and the paranormal.
