Our son Andrew sent me this photo - one of two enormous magnolia trees that unfurl their exquisite blossoms in front of his home at the base of the Niagara Escarpment. Andrew lives in century old home in Grimsby, Ontario and his magnolias are undoubtedly nearly as old. Awestruck, I used to drive there each spring to cut branches - inspired to paint. Speaking of Orchids! This is a watercolour I painted more than 10 years ago based on one of my own prolific plants, tho’ I took artistic liberty with colour. It was a magnificent plant, top heavy with blooms. Following are a couple more design or decorating hacks you may want to try in your home: It is fun to move your art around occasionally. Without spending a cent, it can bring a fresh look to your environment - you feel like you have done a bit of redecorating. Hanging your art too high on a wall can create a jarring effect in your room: for example, when there is large empty space of wall between a sofa and the bottom of the painting. As a general rule, the center of your picture should be 60" above the floor (where the average person’s eye level is). That creates, for your eye, an even flow around your room. I have been working on the painting I began 2 weeks ago, adding detail and subtleties (swipe for close-ups). The process is gradual. I left it alone for a week or so then my mind’s eye began looking at it critically and ideas began to percolate. I sat for the past two days, enhancing, and hopefully creating a lovely painting. I think I am done now. Knowing when to stop is always an issue. This Saturday, June 28 you are invited to the Tiny Art Collective’s monthly outdoor Summer Art Show in the cottage-village of Lafontaine (just west of Midland). Our multi talented artists will have original art - florals, abstract, landscapes (many water views of Georgian Bay). There will be driftwood and stone jewellery, wood carvings, painted paddles, wood chimes and more. So come out 10 am to 4 pm. Summer 2022 . Magnificent, ‘Lowly’ geraniums, impatience and a gynormous rhubarb plant. What a show they make. Top left is a happy watercolour painting I did a few years ago . It is of a geranium that stood on the kitchen windowsill of Drumroe, home of Maureen and Moira Gilmore, Strangford, County Down, Northern Ireland . . . people and places fading to treasured memory 💕. What a fabulous day for our TAC first Spring art show in Lafontaine in Tiny Township. The weather was perfect, a balmy, breezy, sunny day - perfect for relaxing between visitors. Swipe for more … My husband Greg who loads my car the day before, unloads at the show, packs it back into the car at the end of the day, then we unload the next day. My thanks to Greg - I would not be able to take part without his assist. Daughter, Carrie and son-in-law Tim (relaxing under a tree), came from Toronto for a wonderful visit. Then friends, Jan and Jim Grant surprised me with a visit. Jan was my first roommate and a classmate at K-W Hospital School of Nursing, Class of ‘65. Yup, we’re getting old and glad to be here.
