What do I Like most about my job? I get to capture LOVE. Love in all of its most purest, joyful, blaringly obvious or much more subtle forms. This job has opened my eyes (& my heart) to noticing love all around me. Let’s talk a little bit about inspiration. Inspiration can come from anywhere, if you’re open to receiving it, and I get massive inspiration from a wide range of sources. But, photographically at least, one stands out above them all. Street photography has had a big chunk of my heart for quite a while now. I’ve not shot anywhere near enough of it myself in recent years (which will be changing this year, thanks to a new toy - stay tuned for that) but I honestly think that some of the best photographers in the world are street photographers. Why? Because they go out, into so many different environments, surround themselves with people they don’t know, and they can make incredibly powerful, impactful, complex photos that often tell multiple stories, have an element of humour or make a strong statement, without having had *any* influence or control over what’s happening around them. Often, the subjects of these photos will have no idea they’re being photographed. They have the presence, vision and skill to make a photos right there in that moment, that really stands out! Is this starting to sound familiar? The relevance of street photography to a wedding photographer is huge. If you can hone those skills and use them to make really emotional, impactful and powerful photos for your couples, all the while letting them enjoy their day with their nearest and dearest and not taking them out of the moment, you’re on to a winner in my book!
