It’s a @furlanmarri Friday with what, to me, is the pick of the litter of their permanent #mechaquartz #chronograph line. The lovely #nerosabbia has a handsome glossy black and sand colored dial and a wonderful off-balance layout that omits the 24 hour indicator subdial. The Odysseus Chronograph Moon Phase in tantalum and rose gold. Introduced in the late 1980’s and the first ever JLC timepiece in a tantalum case. It features a highly complicated mechaquartz chronograph movement with 233 components. At the time of introduction it was the smallest chronograph movement on the market (the volume was 1/3 of a mechanical movement and less than 2/3 of an equivalent quartz movement). A funky piece with a meteorite effect on the dial (not actual stone) from a very overlooked collection. After seeing @furlanmarri and meeting @andreafurlan.ch at the @windupwatchfair in San Francisco, and particularly after the unveiling of their spectacular contribution to Only Watch, I felt it was time to experience one of their watches for myself. I was immediately drawn to the #nerosabbia #mechaquartz #chronograph with its handsome glossy black and sand colored dial and quirky off-balance layout. I’ve always been turned off by the 24-hour subdial on this type of chronograph, and this one omits that altogether, producing a much more interesting result! The stand-out, of course, is the overall fit and finish for the price, including the amazing case, dial and hand work. This one totally holds its own, and then some! I love seeing new brands coming along, drawing inspiration from the past, but innovating for the future.
