Happy national pet day! There’s nothing I love more than my two pups Jax and Beast! Both pups have such a special place in my heart❤️ 3 years ago I rescued Jax when he was just 5 weeks old! He was a tiny little guy so you can imagine our shock when he just kept growing and growing! He might be a big boy now but he’s the most loyal and loving pup! He sure knows how to make you laugh and always protects us! Beast is 7 years old and I’ve had him since the day he was born. His mom was one of my papas dogs and when I saw the biggest pup in the litter I knew I had to have him! Luckily my papa couldn’t say no and let me keep this precious pup and he’s been my best friend ever since. Beast, despite his size, thinks he’s a lap dog and he loves to lay in my lap like a baby! January 9th is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. A part of my platform as the National Miss Agriculture America Spokesmodel is bringing support and appreciation to our men and women in blue. Over my pageant journey you have seen me start a service project called “Operation Appreciation” and many other events with local Law Enforcement. But why am I so passionate about giving back to Law enforcement? 15 years ago today, my uncle, Deputy Scott Murray tragically passed away. In this tragic time the men and women of many different local law enforcement agencies rallied behind my family and stood next to us in this very tough moment. My uncle served as a deputy for Madera County Sheriff for many years and was loved by many, he truly was a blessing to all. His passing not only affected our family but the community as well and seeing everyone come together to support us in this time was incredible so see love in such dark times. So when asked why did I choose this platform I simply say “it’s a thank you”. A thank you to those that stood by my family and showered us with love and support, a thank you to those that put their life on the line to protect us, and a thank you to my uncle for being the best role model. Every hero deserves a wreath! Today is national Wreaths Across America day. A day to Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom. This is one of my favorite events during the holiday season and one that hits close to home. For the last 5 years I have participated in Wreaths Across America and every year I’ve had the privilege of placing a wreath of my great grandfather, who served in the US Navy, and my great uncle, who served in the US Army, headstones. Being able to honor them along with the many other heroes is one of the most touching experiences. “Ribbons fade and buckles tarnish but the memories last forever” My whole life I have heard this quote time after time but it wasn’t until I pulled out this old faded ribbon that I truly understood what it meant. This ribbon was the very first ribbon I won at 10 years old with my market hog Porkahontas. While this might just be a market ready ribbon it holds so many memories, like the feeling of stepping into the show ring for the very first time or the feeling of getting my first check. As I continue to look through my boxes of awards all the memories of my time in both 4-H and FFA came flooding back. 10 years worth of success and memories laid in a plastic box in my garage for the last 6 years. But truly they lived with me for all these years and will continue too. So to my current 4-H and FFA members here is my advice to you…while I know winning an award is a great feeling don’t get so lost in the moment of trying to win that you forget to make those memories. Make friends, have fun, but most of all just be you. June 14th stands for Flag Day, which celebrates the adoption of the American Flag. People across the United States join together to honor the American Flag and commemorate the flags adoption. Today we had the absolute honor and privilege to join Clovis Elks in their Flag Day Ceremony. This was such a unique experience getting to learn about the history of the American flag and how it came to be. We were also able to observe the retirement of an American flag. We had an amazing time talking to so many veterans and hearing all about their time in the US Military. We cannot thank these brave individuals enough for their service! Let’s talk Chronic illnesses… I myself am one of the many Individuals that suffer from multiple chronic illnesses along with my younger sister. We wake up each day not knowing how we are going to feel. We can be completely fine one day and the next we can barely function but we have no other choice than to push through. Chronic illnesses are common even when you can't see them what may seem like someone is "sick" to you does not mean they are contagious sick for those with chronic illnesses it comes off as a "contagious” thing but it isn't. There are so many people battling invisible illnesses that you may have no idea. My sister and I are just an example. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at us but we are in a constant battle with invisible diseases that attack our bodies which may present us as "sick". So please be cautious of who you label "sick" I know I'm tired of being the "sick kid" and just want to live my life as normal as possible. We didn’t choose this for ourselves trust me. But that doesn’t mean I am going to stop advocating for those who fight the invisible battle each and everyday. So next time before you label someone as sick take this post into consideration. I am using my title and platform to advocate for not only agriculture but many other things that need attention brought to it. My siblings are a huge part of my why. They push me to be the best person I could possibly be and remind me to constantly do my best in life as I serve as a role model for them. Day 15: Share your favorite pageant memory This was definitely a hard one to choose since there are so many! But I would have to say being able to travel and experience so many new and different things with my little sister is definitely my favorite memory! I love being able to bond over pageants with Brooklynn, despite the large age gap between us! I’ve been able to watch her grow into an incredible young lady and really blossom while being in pageants! I also love the memory of our brother coming up to us after the pageant and handing us two rubber ducks. Day 14: Me and my Pet If you know me you know my two dogs Beast and Jax are my worlds! I have had Beast from the day he was born and I got Jax when he was just 5 weeks old. I rescued Jax on a bit of an impulsive decision but it was so worth it! Beast is an Australian Shepherd and Jax is a Husky/Cattle dog mix! Day 10: Advice to your younger self Younger self, if there’s any advice I can give to you it would be to not give up. Life gets hard, you lose people you love, and you face battles that you never could imagine you’d be facing. You are strong and can overcome anything that you face. Never lose that fiery silly spirit that you have and don’t change who you are for anyone! As long as you love yourself that’s all that matters in the end. Day 7: what made you start doing pageants and when? About 4 years ago I started competing in pageants at the state and national level. At that time I felt as if I had no purpose and lacked self confidence. When I came across the previous system I was a titleholder for I just knew this is what I was meant to do. Pageants have allowed me to have a voice and share my story along with many others all while advocating for ag! After completing a year as a state titleholder and a year as a national titleholder and leaving that system, I felt as if I wasn’t done sharing my story yet. That’s when I stumbled upon Miss Agriculture America, I was scared that I wouldn’t be welcome at first but that was completely wrong and now I have the best pageant family I could ever ask for! Pageants have also given something for me and my younger sister to bond over despite the large age gap and truly has been the best thing ever! Day 5: Share an ag Fact about where you’re from! Madera County has a rich history of the gold rush and logging industry. The gold rush sparked a mass immigration into the county causing the county’s population to triple within a years time. Many of the historic landmarks from the Gold Rush, like the sugar pine railroad, still stand in Madera County. Many families that immigrated to mine for gold still reside in the county and have become generational farmers and ranchers. The good I’ll do🤍 If there’s one thing you should know about Miss Agriculture America Central California, Brittany Andersen, is that she has always wanted to be the good in her community. Whether that’s sharing stories of agriculturists, giving back in anyway she can, or bringing awareness to things happening in her community Brittany will be the one to do it. In today’s society we see so much hate and negativity that drives us apart unfortunately. So when Brittany was decorating her grad cap for graduation in just a few short weeks she pondered on many ideas but kept coming back to the song “The Good I’ll Do” by Zach Bryan. Brittany is a huge Zach Bryan fan and has always found peace and comfort in his music but hearing that line of the song she knew that this was what she wanted. Everyone always asks me what my favorite part about pageants is and often I will say being able to give a voice to the industry that feeds us, but my absolute favorite thing about pageants is getting to do it along the side of my little sister. Despite the 11 year age gap between Brooklynn and I we have always been super close but pageants gave us something to do together and have fun with. We are truly each others # 1 fan, supporter, and cheerleader. We push each other to be the very best versions of ourselves and never fail to put a smile on each other’s face no matter the day we had. God blessed me with my built in best friend and I wouldn’t trade her for the world. I can’t wait to watch her grow into even more of an amazing young lady than she already is. Every year Rare Disease Day is recognized to bring awareness to more than 1,200 diseases that are fought by patients on a daily. The ribbon to honor Rare Diseases is a black and white zebra striped ribbon created by Dr. Theodore Woodward. “A professor at the University of Maryland's School of Medicine used this term to teach students the basics of diagnosing disease: When looking at a patient's symptoms, it is better to assume it is a common ailment, not a rare one – a horse rather than a zebra.” Wear those stripes with pride and keep bringing light to those rare diseases!
