CHEMO DONE โ โ โ 4 rounds of weekly taxol/carbo and 4 rounds of 3-weekly EC and Iโm done ๐ฅณ I know there are still a lot of steps left to go, but right now Iโm flooded with relief and gratitude that this day has arrived ๐ I wonโt pretend itโs been a walk in the park, the last few rounds especially have been tougher and Iโve had to dig deep for strength on some days, but it was not as bad as I had feared at the beginning. To anyone starting on this journey I will say you can 100% do this, you will still have good days, youโre stronger than you realise, and lock your eyes on that end date and keep pushing forward! More bits of advice Iโve picked up along the way in comments. Next I get a 4-6 week break to build up strength and immunity before surgery, then another break to recover before radiotherapy, finished with a few more rounds of immunotherapy which Iโve also been having every 3 weeks. The whole process should ideally end in December, 1 year from my first treatment. Iโve been told there is still a possibility of more chemo depending on whatโs found during the surgery but for now both my body and brain are just so glad for this break to recuperate ๐ Sending huge love to all the family, friends, colleagues and lovely people Iโve met along the way who have supported me through this phase. Data from a study of women receiving care through California's Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Program showed that 64% of women self-detected their breast cancer. In todayโs failing healthcare system we must advocate for our own care and the first step in accomplishing this is to take control of our own health and wellness. I was 43 years old when I had my left mastectomy in November of 2011. I felt a lump for years, but it moved around and it was small. As a nurse I didnโt want to look like I was over-reacting. When I finally disclosed my concerns to a physician it was cancerous. My next surgery is May 20th, 2024. We only have one life to become who we were created to be. Fight for your wellness. Studies have proven that in the absence of visual information, the brains of blind people can develop heightened sensitivity in hearing, touch and other senses and cognitive functions. Frank Hoffmann, a Germany-based gynaecologist who developed the idea of MTE (medical tactile examiner) has found that during their extensive examinations, MTEs can catch lumps as small as 6-8mm. According to his unpublished research, that is less than the 10-20mm lumps that many physicians without a visual impairment can find during examinations. In India, 18 MTEs have been trained since 2017.
