Meanwhile the Honorable Commissioner of Women Affairs & Social Development Hajia Titi Auta represented by the Permanent Secretary remarked that silence is no longer an option especially in cases of GBV. MINISTER INSPECTS NFWP PROJECT COMMUNITY The Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye today paid an impromptu visit to one of the Women Affinity Groups (WAG) of the Nigeria for Women Project in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger state. On arrival the entourage met with members of ABADOSUN WAG in Abuchi Koro village. The minister who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Comrade Yakubu Garba and the National Project Coordinator Mrs. Ruth Peter Mshelia used the occasion to get acquainted with project beneficiaries and also appraise the state of NFWP implementation so as to determine the direction of her policies concerning the livelihoods of women in the country. In his reaction, the Deputy Governor of Niger state, Comrade Yakubu Garba told the women that he was happy as they were considering that the NFWP provides them with necessary skills and training to manage their money and grow their business, noting that in business management skills are more important than the money. Meanwhile the members of the ABADOSUN WAG Abuchi Koro village were very happy to see the minister in their midst being the first WAG to host the minister immediately after her appointment and inauguration. In the same vain, the Minister visited a Collective in Izom. This particular collective is into Rice processing and marketing. A mother of six Mrs. Hadiza Mohammed of Baro community in Agaie LGA Niger state expresses her delight over the support and trainings the NFWP has provided towards improving her livelihood. Hadiza Mohammed’s story changed when she embraced lessons on business, life and financial skills taught by NFWP. Hadiza was a food seller making little or no profits most days. As a member of WAG in her ward, Hadiza took loan and ventured in fish business which she’s now very much proud of and excited about the profits she makes. “I had doubts when our Ward Facilitators encouraged me to try something new for a change, today that decision has put smiles on the face of my family and I” Hadiza says. #NFWP #nigerspcu

Niger State Governor His Excellency Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello alongside the Hon. Minister of Women Affairs & Social Development Mrs, Dame Pauline K. Tallen has today the 28th day of February 2022 flagged off the grant disbursement to beneficiaries in the state. H.E Abubakar Sani Bello said he was extremely delighted to be informed that Niger State is taking the lead on WAG formation and other components of the project. This disbursement today is a proof that President Muhammadu Buhari's administration is keen about women development and for this we must extend our gratitude and appreciation His Excellency stated. The Hon. Minister of Women Affairs Mrs. Dame Pauline K. Tallen in her speech highlighted that the NFWP aims to help overcome the main institutional and market failures limiting women's socioeconomic outcomes and access to markets. She further said the project has trained, empowered and connected women to enhance livelihood opportunities through WAG and access to bugger markets. Mrs. Pauline called on women to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for making the NFWP come to reality. I will do everything within my power to ensure the government of Niger State honours its counterpart fund obligation to the project; the Deputy Governor Ahmed Mohammed assures the Implementation Mission Team at his office. The team led by Victoria Esquivel Korsiak explained that they were in the state to assess the implementation status of the project and know where gaps are so they can provide further support. The Implementation Support Mission Team were also privileged to meet the Wife of the Executive Governor Hajia Amina Abubakar Sani Bello who seem very delighted to hear that the project is proposing to layer health into the project. Hajia Amina who is already is a maternal and child health champion in the state disclosed that the health layering is a great move in the right direction. Her Excellency then thanked the team for visiting the state and assured her commitment to support the project and also advocate to His Excellency her husband on the counterpart contribution.
