NFWP PARTAKES IN NATIONAL SAVINGS GROUP CONFERENCE 2024. THEME : ACCELERATING FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC INCLUSION: The Pivotal Role of Savings Groups in Nigeria. The two days conference which commenced today April 23rd at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, Abuja is well attended by Savings Group Implementers, practitioners and even community partners across Nigeria. The conference today centred on panel discussions, side conversations, networking opportunities, exhibition and testimonies on the great impact of Savings Group from community partners. Interestingly, Hon. Adijat Muntayo Adeleye, Honourable State Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Ogun State and Mr Michael Illesanmi, Senior Social Development Specialist, World Bank (NFWP Task Team Lead) were both featured in the first panel session held on the topic "Understanding the Current State of Savings Group in Nigeria". In response, they both very proudly highlighted the impact NFWP has made thus far through the WAG model. In continuation of the conference tomorrow, Mrs. Ruth P. Today, I participated in the National Savings Group Conference 2024 in Abuja, centered on the theme “Accelerating Financial and Economic Inclusion: The Pivotal Role of Savings Groups in Nigeria.” As a panelist alongside other experts, we discussed “Understanding the Current State of Savings Group in Nigeria,” where I highlighted the success of the Nigeria For Women Project (NFPW). With commendations to the management team of the NFWP in the State, I dissected the achievements of the Women Affinity Groups (WAG) in Ogun State-women-led and women-run groups united by common interests to undertake social and economic projects for mutual benefit. The activities of these groups have notably empowered women by providing them with financial independence and a platform to address societal challenges, including speaking out against crimes like rape. There are compelling evidences of their impact in Ogun State. Looking ahead, we are committed to further strengthening the operations of savings groups to advance women’s rights, gender equality, and economic empowerment. Aries Concept in Action: Highlighting Success Stories from the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) in Six States. Niger state: It was inspiring hearing firsthand stories from beneficiaries of the NFWP project. These women have gained valuable income-generating skills, such as rice processing and milling, and have successfully established businesses. Some even formed collective groups to support their families, contributing not only to the economy of Niger state but also to Nigeria as a whole. Additionally, we had the privilege of interviewing ALH. Suleiman Musa Ija, the first project champion in Niger state and district head of Kwaka in Gurara LGA, who emphasized the importance of scaling up the NFWP to benefit more women in other LGAs. We are grateful for the opportunity to gather these success stories from the remarkable women who have thrived thanks to the Nigeria for Women Project. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye today paid an impromptu visit to one of the Women Affinity Groups (WAG) of the Nigeria for Women Project in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger state. On arrival the entourage met with members of ABADOSUN WAG in Abuchi Koro village. The minister who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Niger State, His Excellency Comrade Yakubu Garba and the National Project Coordinator Mrs. Ruth Peter Mshelia used the occasion to get acquainted with project beneficiaries and also appraise the state of NFWP implementation so as to determine the direction of her policies concerning the livelihoods of women in the country. In his reaction, the Deputy Governor of Niger state, Comrade Yakubu Garba told the women that he was happy as they were considering that the NFWP provides them with necessary skills and training to manage their money and grow their business, noting that in business management skills are more important than the money. The Long-Eared Owl (Asio Otus) is a medium-sized Owl and can grow to 31-40cm in length and 86-102cm wingspan weighing about 160-435g making them able to fly silently and at speeds of up to 50km/h. In the build up for collective grant disbursement for WAG members in Kebbi state, the State Project Coordinating Unit led by the state Coordinator Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed Yauri has paid a courtesy call to Federal College of Agriculture to explore areas of collaboration and partnership towards the betterment of the collectives. The team was warmly received by the College Provost and lecturers (experts on food science) who expressly thanked NFWP for finding them worthy of consultation and partnership.
