The Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech are named for their creator but famous for their last owner, Yves Saint Laurent. The famous blue is stunning! Tip: visit when the gardens first open in the morning, the crowds are intense. The Secret Garden of Marrakech is a peaceful oasis in a chaotic city. The complex of gardens and buildings was renovated in the mid-nineteenth century and again recently. There’s a rooftop café, and tower guided visits. The complex is an outstanding example of Islamic art and architecture. Another UNESCO World Heritage Site is the old city of Fez, or Fes. Fez is the French spelling. Founded in the ninth century the labyrinthine marketplaces maintain their medieval character. Each profession has its own unique section whether weavers, dyers, leather rafters, metal smiths, butchers and more. Also tucked in are religious schools and shrines. The medina of Fez is one of the best preserved living monuments in North Africa.
