‘15+ STI steering rack, refreshed with new seals, a good clean, and @_whiteline bushings & outer tie rods. This will be going in my OBXT, along with Whiteline control arm bushings and roll center correcting ball joints. I can’t wait to feel how this handles. The Outback came with a very slow ratio steering rack and the bushings were getting worn so this should really make it feel tighter/sportier.
I still have this hoopty. I decided to keep it around just to tool around the yard with and as a parts car for the red Forester. This is will probably always be the best bargain I’ve ever had with a car, buying it for $250 from a friend in 2019, putting about $800 into it initially, and over the years I doubt I ever put more than $2500 total into it (incl. tires). It had 151k miles when I bought it and I put about 60k on it, taking it on trips to VA, KY, OH, WV, and all over PA. I used it like a truck more than I should have, really only kept up with oil changes and tires, and because of it I was able to park the XT for a while and build it. The body just isn’t worth saving at this point, but it’ll always be a good car 🤝 swipe for my favorite throwback pics.

The Forester is legal! Passed state inspection/emissions last night. I’ve got both of our daily drivers taken care of now so I can turn my focus to my OBXT and Impreza again. There’s still ongoing things to do to this car but for now I’m thrilled with the result. Daily driver needs more love. This car has been such a rock, yet will turn 20 years old next year. We're sitting at 223k miles today, and the stock engine is still running smooth as butter. It burns oil and runs low a lot cuz I suck, but has never quit chugging along. That, and I drive it like I stole it more often than not lol. It's been a work truck more of It's life than anything, carrying around wheels, motors, wooden beams, sheet metal, infusion resin, truck bumpers, carbon fiber parts, and so much more. Lil’ 30mm lift going on the red Forester. Picked the kit up from @alexthekidfrank over the weekend, and I’m super impressed with the quality from @fkeinfab (although such quality can always be expected from Sergei!) Great dude that makes great parts. This will actually be worth doing on this car since the tires I have are just a tad oversized and rubbed when they were on my silver forester. Also keep finding more surprises I didn’t expect on this car. None of the calipers are seized, struts have all been replaced (rears look brand new), sway bar links, front Cv shafts, and misc. hardware all look new. And the rear strut towers are SOLID which is awesome. I picked up this 04 Forester up last fall as a non-runner. It would crank but wouldn’t start. It had spark, air and fuel, so all signs pointed to timing belt failure. The body was really clean though, and cheap, so I figured I would take the motor from my silver Forester (which currently isn’t road-worthy and would take more/ money than I’d like to spend to get it fixed) and swap it into this much cleaner shell. Now, on an interference motor like the ej251, a failed timing belt is usually the end of the line for it as the valves and pistons usually make contact. However, looking at the timing belt it looked *possible* that the belt dry-rotted and shredded its teeth at start-up, and with the heads were in a position where they *might not have* contacted the pistons. (See last picture for how the belt looked) I put an old timing belt on it, charged the battery, crossed my fingers, and watched it fire up on the first try! Today I ran it up and down the road for a while, and it seems healthy enough. I’m going to throw a new timing belt kit in it, brakes, and some misc. cleaning and once it’s legal and road worthy we’ll use this as our main family car for a while. I’ve got it on stands now to go over everything. White wheels aren’t staying, they’re just on there still from swapping with the XT. I’m going to be half tempted to lift it but the goal is going to be cheap and reliable as possible lol.

I bought this Forester non-running, and after checking the basic fuel/air/spark knew it was highly possible the timing belt snapped. Today I finally tore the covers off, and while it didn’t snap… several teeth are missing. The belt is very dry and I’m assuming one day the teeth just shredded off. They are only missing in this one spot, which is why I think it may have failed while trying to start it, perhaps after sitting a long time. There’s a *small* possibility that there was no piston-valve contact, however I’m not banking on it. Still, I might throw a belt on it just to see if it’ll run. The plan was always to swap the motor from my silver Forester anyway, so this is just for curiosity’s sake at this point.

Lots of people know how bad 05-09 legacy and outback headlight output is due to the design of the halogen H7 projector inside. These aftermarket DEPO housings had the internals swapped out for NHK G5 BRT bixenon projectors with a full NHK hid kit. Wow, well @arctikhana was an absolute phenomenal time. Went out and decided to finally do something I've always wanted to- racing on a frozen lake. Georgetown was gorgeous as always and the day couldn't have been better weather wise. The outback was a monster once I figured it out, despite being the first to take out a marker of the whole group. Power steering was not happy and my tires were a tiny bit oversized, but overall it did fantastic. Went up solo but met some amazing people, including @mowji93 who rode along and got the awesome 360 cam footage you see at the end. Only a few laps in so i was far from good yet..be sure to watch until the very end for my spectacular finish lol.
