Positive OT & Case Management’s Sonia Campbell-Thompson enjoyed a visit to the Occupational Therapy Show last week, held at the NEC in Birmingham last week. This is the UK’s leading event for the OT community with the main aim of making it easier for occupational therapists to find updated information, new resources, and support from peers, all in one place. Spending today relaxing and reflecting on a wonderful few days. When I was first asked to present at the OT show my gut reaction was “no way!” But I said yes and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. And I’m so glad I did! The last few days have been nerve wracking and rewarding in equal measures and I feel very proud that @abacusbaths won ‘best on stand education’. Abacus assisted bathing CPD seminars at The OT Show 2023 will include: ‘Bathing and attachment’ presented by Louise Sharp, Occupational Therapist. Stand F25, 22 Nov, 10:30–10:50am. Stand F25, 23 Nov, 10:00–10:20am. Synopsis: The session will explore attachment theory and reflect specifically on the impact on children with a disability. We will discuss the impact of bathing on positive attachment and reflect on intervention plans that support the building of relationships and positive connection. Learning outcomes: • Have a greater understanding of what negative attachment is and what might cause this for children with disabilities specifically • Be able to describe how bathing can support the development of positive attachment • Create an intervention plan that encourages children and caregivers to build on their attachment Abacus was delighted to be the winner of ‘best on-stand education’ at the 2022 OT Show.
