Nuts about coconuts! Honey bees, please! Effective wedding floorplans combine function and aesthetics. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Imagine this space filled with booth seating, square tables and rectangular tables for restaurant diners. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On a typical night, that's how Chef Chai's restaurant would be configured. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We imagined this space as a blank slate, then got creative with use of existing furniture, removing unneeded tables and chairs for the hybrid virtual wedding proof of concept/styled shoot/Mona and Tony's wedding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Behind the bride and groom's table was a shelf used to house assorted glassware for restaurant use. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rather then cover up or take away the shelf, we removed the glasses and instead added various vessels and votive holders to create a pretty backdrop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #hybridvirtualwedding #monylove2020 . The exchange of vows and rings...such simple gestures represent so much when committing one’s life to another. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here, Kahu Brutus of @MarryYouinHawaii placed Mona and Tony’s rings in pa’akai, or sea salt and nestled them in a shell, as part of their hybrid virtual wedding ceremony at @ChefChaiPacifica two months ago. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Notice how Kahu Brutus even wore gloves as an extra precaution in light of COVID-19. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (Thank you to Kelly of @APerfectDayHawaii for ensuring everyone was informed about best practices for keeping safe with regard to the coronavirus.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eight guests witnessed this moment in person, 23 guests joined in on Zoom, and even more watched on Facebook live! Color-coded, customized, acrylic place cards ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We chose acrylic for these little gems from @songkp012 to lend a modern and elegant vibe for the hybrid virtual wedding proof-of-concept/styled shoot/Mona and Tony’s wedding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We designed them as hexagons to mimic the honeycomb cell shape - a subtle nod to Tony’s hobby of beekeeping. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The fonts etched into the place cards mimicked the fonts in the wedding invitation and stationery from @TheWritingDeskHawaii, and included the same honey bee motif. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We painted each one by hand, color-coding them for the servers to know which entree each guest had preselected for dinner. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Guests took these home at the end of the reception as a memento of the occasion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #hybridvirtualwedding #monylove2020 . For the hybrid virtual wedding proof-of-concept/styled shoot/Mona and Tony's wedding, we decided to go with a modern and elegant aesthetic with a hint of whimsy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The PERFECT chair to achieve this was the ghost chair. All about the floor plan...and collaboration! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The hybrid virtual wedding is about blending in person guests with those attending virtually, so with this in mind, we designed the floor plan to allow for a "dance floor" in front of the LED wall (= large screen). This required removing much of the existing furniture at Chef Chai's restaurant, freeing up space. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here, you see the newlyweds (our own Mona and hubby Tony) sharing in their first dance with loved ones who were both physically and virtually present with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We enlisted the help of @Hawaiifinelinens to drape the LED wall, and thanks to Perfection International's coordination and Chef Chai's flexibility, everything came together without a hitch! Floor planning is key! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A hybrid virtual wedding is like a traditional wedding, only it blends both in person guests and those attending remotely. Having a wedding like this is especially apropos during the pandemic where gatherings are discouraged (or temporarily forbidden). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To facilitate this, we designed the floor plan to enable Mona and Tony, newlyweds, to see their eight in-person guests' faces. Tables were spaced six feet apart for social distancing, and were laid out to provide everyone with a view of the LED wall (large screen), which featured the guests participating on Zoom. Behind the scenes: it takes a team of dedicated individuals (and muscle!) to pull together a wedding. For Mona and Tony's hybrid virtual wedding of just 10 people in person (and the rest attending virtually), we enlisted the help of a few Damien High School football players. These young, strapping athletes helped with everything from placing large floral arrangements into guests' cars at the end of the reception, to moving and rearranging heavy, bulky furniture in Chef Chai's. A rotating partition separating the main dining room from the private dining room at Chef Chai (a restaurant located in Honolulu, Hawaii) served as the separation between the ceremony space and the reception space for this hybrid virtual wedding of 10 guests in person and the rest attending virtually. The hybrid virtual wedding ceremony of just 10 guests in person with the rest of the guests attending virtually took place on 6.29.20 in the private dining room of Chef Chai, a restaurant located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kahu Brutus Labenz of Marry You in Hawai’i officiated, and incorporated Hawaiian elements, including the breaking open of a coconut for the couple to drink. Fellow wedding coordination company, A Perfect Day, was tasked with helping us all to observe COVID-19 safety guidances.
