With most of the Orsomarso city center occupied with a large wedding and the weather being beautiful we said goodbye to Orsomarso heading to take advantage of the pool at our hotel in Diamante hoping the area would live up to its jewel of a name. The picture showing the beach from our lunch spot is as close as we got to Diamante, it was just too perfect a location with a great pool and a few bottles of prosecco thrown in we were content with our own company soaking up the last of Summer. Though it didn’t work out for us to visit Diamante proper there is lots to do and many festivals to partake in but probably its most famous claim to fame is its 150 large murals scattered throughout the old town that captures the eye at every corner. Arguably the most revered site in Orsomarso, Our Lady of Lourdes or the Grotta della Madonna di Lourdes is a centennial tribute to first sighting at Lourdes installed it the cave in October 1958 by 10 workmen of the sculptor Plinio Frigo and one ingenious local Vittorio Paulon. The statue is 3m high 1500kg/3300lb carved from a single piece of the Iberian mountains near the sculptors studio in Vincenza, besides all the transport issues to get it here it had to have its own cable car built to install it in this beautiful location. A few people have asked about a picture of the wedding that was taking place in Orsomarso when we visited, here is the best I could do as I usually don’t like to intrude that much into someone’s nuptials but if they are in my frame while capturing a scene that is an acceptable occurrence. What I was trying to capture here is the slope of the town as it rises to meet its mountain backdrop also in the frame is the side entrance to the Church of St. John the Baptist where the wedding was taking place with the famous Casa del Pepperoncino, and the Pro Loco of Pollino. The House of Pepper besides being a great shop to sample and buy Peperoni Cruschi is a photo op waiting to happen, the proprietress Teresa Anna Bottone, the Lady of the crusco pepper welcomes visitors to the shop to pose on the second floor balcony. The Torre dell'Orologio is the beating heart of Orsomarso seen from everywhere in the valley, it is the touchstone of the peoples spirit that live here, proudly thrusting into the sky it is a sentinel that watches over all. It is thought that the tower originally was a Roman outpost used to defend the settlements located along the valley of the rivers, it was an important communication artery between the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea until the middle ages. Around the 10th century an influx of Basilian monks on the run from the advance of Islam settled into Orsomarso they established a monastery on top of the tower of which the remains can be seen today, if you can make the stair climb. Orsomarso the Calabrian “Soul of the Mountains” a beautiful village set deep within the Parco Pollino national park and one that blends in with its surroundings so well one might think it was grown instead of built. It never fails that we always come across a wedding in our travels and this trip was to be no exception arriving into a major production that somewhat limited our ability to tour the town but made up for in people watching. Parking for the town is on the outskirts and hard to find on this occasion with a steady procession of the smartly dressed streaming into Piazza Municipio like so many old Calabrian B&W photos of the wedding party parading through the village. While it was not what we planned our visit to Orsomarso was quite a show and if life gives you lemons make limoncello besides the wedding provided great cover for two foreigners taking lots of pictures. 🎬На Netflix вышел мини- сериал «Рипли» по роману Патриции Хайсмит «Талантливый мистер Рипли». Рипли играет Эндрю Скотт. Надо признать, актеру прекрасно удаются роли злодеев: сначала профессор Мориарти в сериале «Шерлок», теперь - Рипли. Мне очень нравятся книги Хайсмит о Томе Рипли. Суть романов в ее фразе: «Люди всегда влюбляются в то, что не могут иметь. Всегда». Это 100% про Рипли. Рипли по-настоящему страшный человек, вызывает ужас и отвращение до мурашек. Чтобы удовлетворить свои амбиции, он совершает ужасающие поступки, убивает людей. 🎬В 1999 году уже был снят фильм «Талантливый мистер Рипли». Главные роли исполняли Мэтт Дэймон, Гвинет Пэлтроу и Джуд Лоу. Я считаю, что кастинг был идеальный. Мне кажется, что картина стала лучшей экранизацией романа о Томе Рипли. 🎬А вот новый сериал «Рипли» мне показался ужасно затянутым. Режиссёр Стивен Заиллян снял сериал из 8 серий - явный перебор. После 3 серии уже хотелось начать перематывать. Любовь Заилляна к деталям просто зашкаливает. Бесконечная фиксация на фотографиях, обуви, интерьерах помещений, вещах - безумно утомляет. Не могу понять зачем пристегнули сюда Караваджо? Что их связывает с Рипли: убийство, бегство, Италия? На мой взгляд, притянуто за уши. Из плюсов - очень здорово снят Рим, ночная Апиева дорога, Сан-Ремо, Венеция. Хоть и зачастую, одно выдаётся за другое. И тот факт, что сериал черно-белый меня не напрягал. Даже, наоборот, подчеркивает абсурдность, нелепость, ужас происходящего.

Nestled in a cove along the Riviera dei Cedri, Marinella di San Nicola Arcella offers a unique seaside experience with its pebbled shores and dramatic cliffs. While the beach may be bustling with activity, from the shaded umbrellas of local establishments to the boats bobbing in the water, there's a charm in its animated atmosphere. The historic Crawford watchtower stands as a silent guardian, adding a touch of antiquity to the scenic views. There are unserved sections of the little cove that offer the promise of finding a spot on the free beach but for tourists like me without gear there are wonderful spots along the stretch which will serve you well. We discovered our Lido next to the staircase that leads you over the cliff on the right to the renowned Arco Magno beach it also has convenient paid parking directly behind the Lido.
