IRINA SHEYNFELD I grew up in Odessa, Ukraine where I studied puppet making, painting, and sculpture in Odessa Theater Collage. Just before the Soviet Union collapsed I moved to NYC with my family and continued my studies at Parsons School of Design. I majored in illustration and then I received MFA at the School of Visual Arts. For about ten years I worked for various publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine and Oxygen Media as Senior Designer, photo editor, and illustrator. Recently, I had several solo exhibitions and my work was included in numerous juried group shows. I am a recipient of the COJECO’s Blueprint Fellowship and Grant. I was also selected twice to be NYC Piano Artist for Sing for Hope Piano project in 2017 and 2018. About the Piano: I named my piano “Basant Utsav”(Spring Festival). The Art style is based on a folk art coming from North India, called Kangda style. I showed a woman playing drums, a symbol of celebration of Spring with dance and music, surrounded by beautiful bushes with lots of flowers and some ancient castles. Two swans are also painted as the symbol of romanticism, enjoying the weather in a pond with the bloom of water lilies. I believe I am adding more beauty to the world with my creation/ by painting this piano. Wherever it will go, people will be able to feel the beauty and freshness of spring, even if their days have been cloudy. I have already heard other artists saying that, “I feel like going on those hills. I love your fantasy world” That’s a great compliment and that is what I wanted to achieve, a smile on everyone’s face and happiness in their hearts. I love to see the shine in others eyes after seeing this piano. The Sing for Hope Piano project has been the best project of my life so far. About the Artist: Têjaswini is a versatile artist with creations in multiple mediums. She has successfully experimented with water, oil, acrylics and even beads on canvas. Sing for Hope Pianos - NYC - 2023 Piano designed by artist @clementinemartinezillustration Location: Harbour Eats on Cottage Row CLEMENTINE MARTINEZ Clementine Martinez is an illustrator and printmaker born in NYC and currently living in Brooklyn. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute. Since 2019 she has been involved in a number of public art projects, including painting a Sing For Hope piano, designing a mural that will be printed on vinyl to cover HESCO barriers for the Roosevelt Island Operating Commission, and creating a mural for the underground market in the Columbus Circle subway station. She has participated in the Red Dot Winner Exhibition at the Art Students League and in the Affordable Art Fair, and has illustrated three children’s books for a cancer research organization. Her upcoming public art project with the Hudson Square BID will help direct pedestrians along a walk to the waterfront. Artist Statement: My design centers around the theme of islands, which are a unique part of New York City’s geography. In my design I tie this into the cultural background of many New Yorkers who may come from islands as well. Sometimes New York can feel isolating because of the amount of people that live here, but I want to show that the islands are connected and to impart a sense of community in the way the different elements interact. Included too are the many animal inhabitants of our NYC islands and those from other islands as well.
