Day 2 at the Blackpool Dance Festival I couldn’t sleep well after the excitement and fear of the unknown on the first day. However, getting ready and knowing the procedures made everything much easier today. Competing in the multi-dance championship with 38 couples was tough. We did two rounds and made it to the semifinals. Seeing our number come up on the recall screen between rounds brought indescribable excitement. It felt surreal to be in the top 12, thinking “wow, we made it,” and wondering if we could make the final. While dancing in the semifinals, I had mixed feelings: achieving my dream of being here but realizing this could be the end this time. I soaked in the atmosphere of the grand ballroom and momentarily lost my competitive edge 😆. The electrifying atmosphere was amazing, with everyone’s dreams coming alive. No judges knew us, and we didn’t know our competitors. I even asked Rhett about a guy who kept advancing—turns out, he’s the current world champion 😂. We didn’t make it to the final, but I became the champion of my world. I can’t thank Rhett @dancelandtweed our professional coach and partner, enough for making everything possible—from organizing the trip to bringing out our best without losing his cool. He even had to dance five routines back-to-back to partner all of us! It was lovely meeting Karyn’s wonderful son Joel and seeing him support his mom. I’m so proud of our Aussie team, especially the Danceland crew, Karyn and Bettina. They and Bettina are embarking on European holidays now. Best wishes and safe travels! I love the dress from @fbinternationaldancewear ; it made me feel like the perfect fit for the event, and I enjoyed dancing and the makeup by @maryray_style @daniella__style_ Ultimately, I felt like Cinderella shining dancing in the castle 🥰. On kuulkaa ihan todella motivoivaa ja innostavaa - laji joka vie todellakin mennessään! Treenimäärät on meillä taviksilla toki ehkä muutamassa vuodessa samat kuin TTK-tyypeillä siinä ihan parissa kuukaudessa, eikä meidän live streameja myöskään seuraa ihan yhtä monta miljoonaa silmäparia, mutta onhan nämä kisapäivät silti aikamoista säihkettä! For me, the most important roles in my life are, of course, being a loving mother, wife and daughter. But in addition, I’m also an ambitious and hard-working business woman and pretty passionate about my work with very high professional standards. And then I have this dear hobby of mine where I suddenly get to jump into the shoes of an elegant ballroom queen floating in that fairytale princess dress or into the high heels of a fierce Latin lady with a bold badass attitude. How cool is that?! 🔥💃🔥 Most of the time this beautiful sport is pure laughter and joy. The best ever. However, sometimes it can also be just hard work and sweat and at times even tears, caused by the feelings of dissatisfaction, insufficiency, impatience and frustration. Everyone who has given it a try knows how challenging it can be both physically and mentally. But that’s good, after all; If it wasn’t so damn difficult, the development and even the tiny steps of progress wouldn’t feel as good. And if it didn’t take you on this crazy emotional rollercoaster ride with the highest highs and lowest lows, it couldn’t touch the heart and soul so deeply. ❤️🔥 Huge thanks to my fantastic ProAm teachers @markusliisa & @laszlokonstantinkalmar for the awesome time on that dance floor last Saturday! Easter Sunday rumba & cha cha practice. 💃 I’ve done a lot of crazy stuff in my life, including trying several extreme sports like mountain climbing and downhill biking and ending up in places way beyond my skill level on my snowboard or suddenly finding myself in competing in the world championships of cheer dance. Been there, done that. And still. I feel that one of the hardest and for some reason also the scariest things for me is latin dancing. You know, in principle I usually hate stuff in which I feel that I’m not good at or that feel somehow awkward or don’t come naturally for me. And still. The older I get, the more I want to do things that are outside of my comfort zone. A 40+ crisis? Might just as well be one of those, but if I had to choose, I think this one is a good one, after all. Could be worse, I guess. 😅 Thank you @laszlokonstantinkalmar for prepping me for the ProAm competition that is coming up (way too soon btw!) and for keeping up with an amazing spirit with my mental rollercoaster ride that this lovely hobby of mine is making me to go through, over and over again. And still. Despite all the anxiety and frustration it’s causing at times, I think this sport is the best possible way to learn to tolerate incompleteness and imperfection and accept that it simply takes a lot of time and practice to learn something new and to get that into the muscle memory, too. It’s painful. Damn hard. Extremely frustrating. And still. I’ve also learnt that one can still enjoy the ride, even though you’re only half way where you would like to be. I guess it must be one of the most worn-out clichés to emphasize the importance of the journey instead of the destination but this is exactly what that saying is all about. And one of the pit stops along the way is the competition next Saturday. What a wonderful weekend full of ballroom magic at the first ever @majesticdanceopen in Brighton, UK! 🇬🇧 Dancing in front of the prestigious panel of 21 adjudicators to the live music played by the famous @empressorchestra under the beautiful lights, enjoying the enormous dance floor and the unique atmosphere of this magnificent venue at @the_brighton_centre - these are the moments one will never forget! 💫 I think I have never danced better at any competition on my personal ballroom journey so far and I feel happy and proud about winning the Pro/Am Ballroom 5-Dance Challenge in my own age group.
