So we have been keeping a little secret! Guess who came into rescue last Friday?? A mama pug, Gidget, and her two male 6 week old pug/terrier mix puppies, Chip & Dale. They were strays in Los Ranchos and ended up at the Bernco shelter, released after their stray hold. ❤️🐾🙏🏻 They are the sweetest little boys and just starting to wean. Gidget is a great mama too. No - mama & babies are NOT ready yet! Okay rant coming…. 😂 Please, it is a thing that pushes our buttons when people see puppies and immediately want puppies. They are cute, and these guys are absolutely adorable and so fun. So we get it, we do. We love them too!! 😉 However, puppies are a commitment. They are A LOT of work and we don’t adopt them to just anybody. We are a rescue, not a breeder. We are getting more puppies recently because people are not spay and neutering their pets. We are getting more young pugs under a year too, because people get puppies and after a few months they don’t put in the work. As a rescue it’s frustrating and sending us a message “How much for a puppy?” is the best way to NOT get on our adoption list. Sorry, rant over. 😂 They will be ready SOON and we will let you know when. The hits just keep coming, but we had to say goodbye to one of the best senior girls today. ❤️🩹 Dolly Dolly came to us at the Pug Ranch when her parents could no longer care for her, as they were aging as well. She was a tough nut to crack and Mike told her one day we will be friends and they were. At first she wouldn’t let us touch her & not your typical snuggly pug. She loved her senior crew and was a loving girl her last few years with us. She always had warm beds, snuggles, full tummy, the best vet care, and of course, the best fashion. 👗 She was one of our beloved grandmas & it won’t be the same without her. We knew it was her time as we think she had a stroke last month. After trying several medications she continued to decline. 😩 We always kept in touch with her humans and kept them updated with stories & photos. They loved watching her flourish and it was a honor and blessing to love her. Fly free sweet Dolly. It’s been a pug day!! Larissa and I road-tripped to Deming to get 4 pugs! Mom Shelia, Dad Simon, 2 sons Roni & Leo. We were able to actually drop off the 2 sons to new homes with adopters in Las Cruces & Alamogordo. And mom & dad got pup cups for the ride home to Albuquerque! Our days never seem to slow down but today had its ups & downs. After the 8 pugs this week, we actually have 2 more coming in to adopt as well! And there are numerous pugs in NM shelters right now too! 🤍🩵🩷 First, we woke up to NO power, took care of 26 pugs and then headed out to our First Saturday of the Month pug meetup in the park. It was freeeeeeeezing 🥶 & so windy!!! So thanks to all those who came out!! 🙌🏻 Second, Melvin who was found as a stray and not reclaimed was neutered yesterday. Today, he met his amazing new potential family & is already having a blast with his new brother & sister! 🎉 Next, Mike and I road-tripped to Santa Rosa, NM to pick up father & son Appa (fawn) 6yr old and Amato (black) 4 yr old. They were very loved by an amazing military family in Clovis and guess what?? They already have a meet & greet tomorrow together!! 😉💕 Lastly, our night took a turn when Oatchi our medical foster who fought so so hard with every medical condition was not doing well. We had to take him into Emergency 🚨 and say goodbye. 😭 More to come on him in a separate post, but tonight my heart is really hurting. We try so hard to save them all and fought for him this past month, but his body couldn’t fight anymore. We had to set him free of pain. Sweet little Oatchi is getting released today & thanks to you all we covered 75% of his hospitalization & bill. They did also find he is positive for Ehrlichia, which is a tick born disease, along with his severe thyroid issues. We are waiting on cortisol test results trying to rule out Addison’s and Cushing’s disease. He is still really weak, very skinny, and drinking an excessive amount of water. So our goal will be fattening him up, taking his meds and we will have to restrict his water to every four hours so that he doesn’t drink so much that his bladder has a possibility of bursting. Thank goodness this little dude was found so we can help him and try and get to the bottom of his issues. He kind of reminds me of our miracle boy Rudy. Update this morning on Oatchi. He ate a ton this morning and is definitely perkier! The vet said his thyroid is waaaaaaaay off. He didn’t even register at like a 0 and should be between 2-3. They will be keeping him another night on antibiotics and going to run new bloodwork & cortisol test tomorrow. He definitely has thyroid issues & that low would explain his fur and even the neuro issues. Not necessarily the weight loss but still working on more answers! We can’t thank you enough for all our your support, donations & prayers!!! You have really showed up for us and this sweet boy & all the pugs in need. This little pug warrior (abandoned at a truck stop, starving & extremely malnourished, heartworm positive, & foreign body in his stomach surgery survivor) is doing awesome these days and is my constant shadow. His new thing is he has to go with me everywhere & runs to the car, hops in the car refusing to get out and is like YOU ARE TAKING ME!!! Guess who gained 2lbs!!! Rudolph had a good check up and gained 2 lbs, got his surgery staples out and is on the right track. He still has to gain more weight and it might be 2 months before we can start heartworm treatment, but this is the positive boost we needed. He has to gain slowly for his entire system. Sometimes in rescue we walk that line of knowing when to raise the white flag or fight. We know every dollar helps more dogs and it’s also a balancing act for their quality of life. We knew he was a fighter! In the middle of our other emergencies, we welcomed Raven from the shelter last Sunday! She has had a very hard time as she is super shy and very shut down. Today after almost a week she finally ate out of a fluff trough vs hand feeding and she actually wagged her tail excited to see us as we came home. Unfortunately she was dropped at the shelter for Christmas and we don’t know her story. But the shelter was a super scary place for this girl so it’s taking her awhile. She isn’t ready to adopt yet as she needs a dental & we will assess her needs for the right home environment. But never again sweet girl. You are safe & loved. Happy Tails Pupdate!!! 🎉🎉 Comet, who was on the run throughout Albuquerque for a week, has a new mom & name - Sherman!!! It was total case of the universe stepping in for what he & his new mama needed. He is gone. Our heart are shattered. Clarence went into heart failure today and the vet felt it was time. We tried so so hard but with his age and the severity of his dental infection his body was done. We go back and forth in our minds with his tooth abscess, do we let him suffer or do the dental. But I know we did the right thing & he had to have the dental or the infection would have got him. The vet said we did the right to give him a chance too. This is the part of rescue that is the hardest. I bonded with this man, he had a good few weeks with so much love and even got his mojo back flirting with cute ladies at the ranch and making a few besties. Mike was with him today and I am out of town which is tearing me apart. We just spent $1000 on his surgery Wed and I would do it again it’s not about the money, it’s about the dogs and the best care. Please keep us in your prayers this is hard. Rescue is hard. Our sweet Clarence, the grandpa we picked up from the Deming Shelter had a neuter & 17 teeth pulled yesterday!! He has a little fluid built up around his heart after such a big surgery. He got heart meds today and spent the day in oxygen to be safe. Our foster Larissa is taking great care of him while I am gone. Send him some good vibes & prayers. I know puppies are cute and all, but look at this hero mama over here! She is just a young lady herself wanting to play, snuggle and get all the lovies. She has been absolutely amazing. I told her we would take care of her as she went through this pregnancy. Not sure if you remember her story, but she was being used to breed and they didn’t want her anymore because her litters kept dying. So she was given to 2 homeless ladies for a few weeks before they sold her for a case of beer! All while she was actually very pregnant!! We immediately gave her the best care and helped her deliver 3 beautiful babies. I feel like Mama Peggy Sue and I have been in the trenches together. She gave birth, I slept with her waking every 2 hrs and while I had 10 days of food poisoning. 😂🤦🏻♀️ This mama takes care of her babies, feeds, cleans, plays with them. She is my little hero! After mama duty is over & her spay her happy ending will come too, but looking at her I just felt she needs some props. I’ve got him!!! Meet Clarence, he is a senior man that I just got out of the Deming shelter. He’s got an abscess tooth that burst while I was there and so we’re going straight to the vet. He is a sweet old man who was put in their Dropbox on Sunday night, but here’s to better days Clarence. 🙏🏻❤️ I couldn’t stop thinking about him & so I got up super early to be at the shelter 4 hrs away in Deming, NM when they opened today. Welcome, Mark! I just sprung him out of the shelter today and he’s with his foster an already doing amazing. Thank you so much to his foster Annette! I think the shelter was just a very scary place for him and he was shut down and so far so good and he will be ready for adoption shortly.🙏🏻❤️ Ironically, there was 3 more pugs that came in as strays yesterday at the Albuquerque Westside shelter. I am following up on them, and it looks like they do have priority holds if they are not reclaimed. However watch the shelter sites if you are looking to adopt too. Sorry we have been swamped with puppy duty, our current 20 pug sanctuary, current pugs needing rescue, work and on little sleep. 😴 I am staying with mama & babies at night up every 2 hrs. 💜🩷💙 They’re doing awesome and gaining weight and mama is going a good job! Mama Peggy Sue takes a break every once in a while to get her own snuggles & love so she isn’t stressed & loved. Right now they sleep all day and feed. Soon, oh so soon, it will change!!
