The worst news. Sonny is gone. He was 20 years old, but didn't start to show his age until the last month. His appetite was not good, and he was getting really weak in his rear legs. Now for some bad news. Elvis Purrsley has been limping off and on on his left rear leg for a couple weeks. He still runs around like a kitten climbing the curtains, jumping on the counter, and overall annoying mom & me. He went back to the vet for X-rays of his pelvis and turns out this guy is even more special. Besides eating everything and anything, he also has an EXTRA vertebrae that is partially fused to his pelvis! MAMA CHILE was discharged from the hospital today! It has been a long road with our Tijuana rescues, but we are just so happy that Chile is doing great and finally out of the hospital. Thank you Anjali Bellman for fostering this sweet Mama for us and showing her what love and kindness is all about! Chile is an adorable 4 year old, 35 lb, Lab mix, and her smile lights up a room. She is very sweet and is quite timid at first, so she will need a patient and loving home. BABY RELLENO will need to stay hospitalized for several more days. The next day after we posted their rescue video, Relleno had some diarrhea and tested Parvo positive. Now we know why the other 2 puppies passed away before even making it to America. Relleno was immediately put on supportive care and fought like a champ for a week and beat Parvo. But then, he had another setback and was jaundice, his protein levels were very low, and he had no platelets in his blood. They started him on treatment again and gave him a blood transfusion as his blood counts were at 14% and they should be closer to 35%. Dr. Pitt was amazed that Relleno was still eating, but that little dude has such a will to live. He gave us quite the scare, but over the weekend his platelets were almost back to normal and he is doing amazing now. Relleno is an adorable 10 week old, 8 lb, male Lab mix. He is expected to be discharged from the hospital later this week and we will need a foster or foster to adopt for him. He is so sweet and loving, and ready to be a puppy again. Bruce is still looking for a home! Foster or forever! Bruce is such a sweet boy but it takes a little bit of time for him to trust new people and relax. Bruce is smart and thrives with good leadership. He will always need a strong leader and proper introductions to new people. He knows sit, shake, and wait. His boarding buddy has been working with him on not pulling on leash as well as how to handle strangers who may be near him on walks. Bruce enjoys playing with other dogs in doggy daycare. He has some separation anxiety when left so he needs to be crated when the humans are gone. Bruce needs a quiet home without a lot of visitors and without children. EDIT: Cat is alive in the photo. We went to pick up this sweet boy this evening. We met him while we were trapping a few days ago. All he wanted was attention and love. He followed his feeder around and ignored food, despite him being so thin. We were unable to take him previously because we had cats in traps already and not enough space or hands to carry him. We came back two days later to get him. We were searching all over for him and found out from neighbors that he had been killed by a dog that morning. We know it’s not the dog’s fault, but it is so sad and disheartening. As a rescue one of the hardest feelings is getting so close to saving a cat, but being just a little too late. This boy only wanted love and a home and he won’t get that. In a bittersweet moment, we were able to pick up three friendly cats from this same location, but there are always so many friendly cats who need help, and so many dangers they face. Friendly cats who trust humans are in a lot more danger on the street than feral cats. Friendly cats are much more likely to be injured or killed by dogs, cars, poison, or a multitude of other perils. Kitten season is approaching, and we are trying our best to TNR as many cats as we can, and bring in as many friendly cats as possible. @etcgeorgia was able to get these furkids spayed and neutered thanks to the great folks @secondlifeatl for making these possible! Magnolia, Luna, Cali, River, Dublin cats, Frankie, Starlight, and Moonlight. All three huskies are from the same mom dog who had two litters in six months, so it was very important to get these girls spayed. This girl who we trapped over the weekend for TNR and thought might have been pregnant actually had pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that would have eventually killed her. It can mimic the appearance of pregnancy. She will be fine now. Just another reason to #spayandneuter #spayanyway

This month alone we have TNR’d 13 cats across Rockaway. Thanks to Leslie-Ann Woulfe Smith,Mike for an absolute trooper getting the cats and transporting them for services. Becky Glennon and Elise Jay Demmi have been tag teaming with holding and recovering the multiple cats from each of our TNR adventures. We had a new Far Rock trapper @ms.kitty Jennings, join the team! She’s been crushing it, in her neighborhood. Cris and Laura Arena Kiburis have been shuttling cats all over! Tamara was clutch with an additional spay spot! Thanks to the ASPCA, Halo Vet and Flatbush Vets for performing all our cats surgeries successfully. We also have Nicole Melhado, and Cris working hard to help socialize our current kittens and Catfixerny Rescue providing much needed care. Say hello to our kind volunteer Kia with the friendly black female who was recently trapped, spayed and released as part of the neutering programme with visiting vets and volunteers. She featured in the video we posted on April 21 on Instagram when she was released and looked for some love and attention rather than bolting off. Lots of you have asked about her and she’s now living happily in the port village by a restaurant called @akathi_iraklia_cyclades whose lovely owners feed the Aegean cats here and were happy for a cat feeder to be installed so the cats get fed all year round.
