Mike Maier got another Good Guys win this weekend in Ptown. Good Guys changed up the course and the surface was definitely not easy to get a set up for. Through lots of tweaking the car came in and did a wonderful job. The Ansel’s have been spectacular in providing such a wonderful car to drive. Racing this Corvette has sure helped us to understand suspension in a broader fashion than just sticking with one train of mind. The Falken RT660 tires have also continued to impress. From street driving, track days to autocross they keep giving back in a big way. That also goes for the Wilwood brakes, JRI shocks, and Lucas oil. 3rd in the largest class at Optimas search for the ultimate street car challenge in Sonoma first time out with the car is pretty awesome. New motor from AED, new transmission, fresh suspension settings and almost a years worth of prep. Dave Schotz and Matt Ramirez have been hard at it for the last several seasons now in Optima. So competing with those that have been working hard at it isn’t easy. Especially after almost a year break while we worked on the car. We were third in the autocross by about two tenths of a second behind first, fifth in speed stop behind another few tenths, D&E we bumped new blue up to 21st which was its best and finally we were second overall on the road course. This was one of the first times that GT cars were ahead of all the crazy vettes. Dave Schotz was just a tick ahead on the road course by about .3 per session. The Mike Maier inc S550 suspension was right there. Just a few adjustments should get us going along with a little more tuning from AED. We are so happy with the motor, the Wilwood brakes, Falkens RT660 tires, the Lucas oil for taking good care of our nice new motor. We also love all the local support. The rear end shop for helping us get the GearFX gear set in place. The Quartermaster clutch assembly was hooked up and the boys in the shop. All the late hours from Dan and Mike for helping to push us through . All in all this wouldn’t be possible with out the support from your family. Both of our kids Mick and Lily showed up ready to work with smiles. Brianne also was the eye in the sky. She watched as we started to fade from the heat and dust. Waters started to be handed out, snacks and most of all the always pushing to not leave any opportunity on the table. This is why we do this. As we know we have won a lot of races over the years. We also have taken our licking’s. This weekend was a bit tough. We had our week points as well as our strong points. If we do not get that burn in our gut to do better than things don’t progress. We are thankful for the burn. It’s what drives us. At the end we actually posted some our fastest times on the road course ever in new blue by seconds. We need to work on the power, D&E as well as our speed stop prowess. But we could see clearly that our corner speeds on the road course especially through the slow stuff was up. What a race. After pulling our 2017 Mustang off the shelf we ended up finishing third in GT. As they say it’s bitter sweet. Like always, we always want to win. However the fact is these guys are serious. A lot of great effort in all of these cars. Not to mention lots of talent. The MMI S550 suspension was allowed to do its thing with the new Falken Azenis RT 660 . This will definitely be a tire on the podium a lot more in the future. JJ from Ultimate performance stepped in to give his helping hand. Having his experience to watch the car and help tune the chassis as needed was a huge. Another notable subject was the Wilwood brakes. We have converted this Mustang to a manual non abs brake system and it would turn out to be one of our strong points. The ability to drop the anchor at will was amazing. As you all might know we have a virtually stock power plant. To be able to run this car as hard as we have took a couple of key components. E85 and Lucas Oil. Choosing the right coolant mix along with the right oil is imperative. Had a great day yesterday at the @_mvscc_ event at the @afmuseum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton yesterday! The #butterknife was the only car in the 29 second range at a 29.3, earning the fastest time of the day as well as winning the @drivenasa “R” class. The AAM installed @gm_performance_ LS3 with the Stage 3 @summitracingls cam was an animal!...and the @raft_motorsports_inc tuned @vansteelcorvettes / @jrishocks suspension harnessed that power and put it straight to the ground. It’s been a good run for the Camaro in the Optima series but as they say... everything that has a beginning has an end. After 10 regular season GTL wins, back to back overall season points championships and back to back OUSCI championships the Camaro has been retired from Optima competition. We are looking forward to what the future will bring and we plan to develop the car far into the foreseeable future. Today was Old Blues first time back to the Optima scene since 2016. Running 3rd in the Autocross in the largest class of the event made us proud of the old girl.
