Continuing my themed Ralph McQuarrie concept art figure posts brings us to one of the all time greats... It is never a surprise when people cite Boba Fett as one of their favourite Star Wars characters. A massive moment in my life was the Easter of 1980 when I remember my elder brother and I were both given a Star Wars figure each among our haul of chocolate! He got Lobot and I was given Boba Fett!!! On my 21st birthday I was gifted a 6 Foot cardboard Fett Standee and on my 30th birthday I wore a custom made complete Boba Fett outfit - complete with Jetpack and authentic looking blaster - for a fancy dress party on a boat on the Thames in London. Great memories, some great merchandise and one of the most inspirational of McQuarrie's concepts... Having started off with the white prototype armour and alternative helmet, McQuarrie knocked it out the park with his concept for this mysterious Bounty Hunter with only seconds of screen time across the Original Trilogy and who was to become a massive fan favourite for the franchise both then and nearly 45 years later... As with the concept C3-P0 and Snowtrooper from a few posts back, I thought I would share a line up of some loose Fett figures standing side by side with the original concept for our Mandalorian-armoured friend! From the comparison photo in my last post of the Ralph McQuarrie concept C3-P0 figure alongside the robot Maria from the 1927 Fritz Lang film Metropolis (where McQuarrie had looked to for inspiration), I thought I would share a line up of some loose C3-P0 figures standing side by side with the original concept for our golden friend! After my last post I wanted to come good on finding the photo with the Metropolis Maria Robot from the 1927 cult classic film side by side with the Ralph McQuarrie 3.75 concept C3-P0... and here it is!!! (Only took two hours trawling through 3,000+ photos taken around 2010 but I found them!) 💫 A slightly different setup on the shelf in these pictures compared to my last post and some other great display pieces from my collection in the photos in this post, culminating in a close up on the concept C3-P0. Ralph McQuarrie took inspiration from the Maria robot when creating the look for C3-P0 and was responsible for some other great concepts images for R2-D2, Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Snowtroopers and Boba Fett (to name just a few) before George Lucas decided on the final drafts that were produced for the classic trilogy. Following on from my previous post featuring the robot Maria from the 1927 Fritz Lang film Metropolis in 3.75 inch Super7 ReAction form, I recently found a photo I took pre-2010 with my loose 7.5 inch Mezco Silent Screamers Reel Masters Maria complete with chair. Among my 660+ posts I have often shared a selection of the numerous and varied Super7 ReAction figures I have. I am a sucker for Retro style carding as it evokes that joyous feeling of being a kid growing up with 3.75 figures from Star Wars, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Micronauts, Action Force, The A- Team and so on... **Shocking eBay find after Hasbro Pulse UK sells out of this desirable item!!!** Apologies for not posting here on Insta for the last few weeks, as I had planned to do a series of posts on vehicles and starships from my collection to build on the previous 2 posts. I hope to continue with this theme in the coming days. Unfortunately real life can get in the way and I feel my attention has been required elsewhere for the last 3 weeks. Happy to say that I am back now and where this is usually a joyous weekend because it is Convention Time - with all it's exciting news, images and reveals - I am finding myself posting an off-topic post today that mirrors Convention Time from 12 months ago. I have included last year's post in the 2nd and 3rd photos. It is important to start by saying that I am offering a point of view here in my my little corner of the interverse and this is a humble opinion and I know my words may put a cat among the pigeons - but I must state I have no intention to offend, just to open a conversation perhaps - but as a collector for the best part of 28 years and a child who grew up with such amazing toys and influences in the 1970s and 80s I am saying what I see that I feel taints the joy of collecting...
