MAP PACKS BEFORE IT WAS COOL! Dating back to sometime in the first half of the 12th century, the Hnefatafl game board from Trondheim. This type of game is already established at the end of the fourth or beginning of the fifth century. At the very least, we know Hnefatafl very well already in the Vendel and Viking Age. Most reenactors will be familiar with the classic board with an odd number of squares. Typically 7x7, 9x9, 11x11 or 13x13. In this case it is also an 11x11 board, but it is very easy to see that the board is different in some ways from the " plain" ones. There are engraved crosses right in the plate. My interpretation is that these are squares that cannot be entered and thus form "terrain" barriers that do not allow the figures through. There can be wide debate about the effect these fields have on the game and how to implement them, and I would be happy to get your ideas. For now, the model that works well is impermeable walls, but which are not used to kill your opponent's pieces. The board itself is made of ash with beech edges secured with iron rivets. These are just hammered in, I didn't use any glue. "Restoring Continuity: Azulejo Tiles in the Circular Society." - When colour, form, and connection converge, the story of historic Azulejo tiles unfolds—a tangible link to the past amidst a changing world. Inspired by the tiles during my stay in Porto: each bearing tales of local history, create a foundation for sustainable future homes and stand witness for the need of continuïty. Take for instance the São Bento Railway Station, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to 1904, adorned with nearly 20,000 Azulejo tiles. They offer a glimpse into Portuguese history, captured effortlessly by modern phone cameras. The allure of these tiles as a tourist attraction is undeniable, contrasting with the neglect suffered by many 19th-century buildings. Yet, beyond mere aesthetics, Azulejo tiles embody deeper significance. Their colours convey meaning, their forms shape reality, anchoring them in the transition toward a circular society. Many of these cherished tiles find refuge in the Banco de Materiais in Porto. Here, homeowners in need of restoration tiles can obtain them free of charge, preserving the continuity of their buildings. However, this system relies not only on tangible resources but also on intangible factors crucial to the circular transition. The bank works with developers to optimize and teach restauration techniques. Knowledge is key. In conclusion architectural sustainability relies on continuïty and respect for the intangible in the contemporary context such as symbolism of colour, form and connection. We need the mental backing of a safe space for change. [Unfinished Colosseum] [ #unfinished_colosseum] Meet our jurors! 🧑⚖️👩⚖️ / Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori - Founders of Labics Labics is an architecture and urban planning firm founded in Rome in 2002 by Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori. The name Labics expresses the idea of a laboratory, a fertile ground in which ideas circulate. Combining theoretical research and applied experimentation, the studio's field of interest extends from urban planning to the design of interior spaces, thus crossing the different scales and complexities of the project. Labics has exhibited their work in various exhibitions including the 11th, 12th, 14th Venice Architecture Biennale; in 2015 the Stefania Miscetti studio dedicated the monographic exhibition "Structures" to him, also hosted at the MAXXI in Rome in 2019. In 2015 Labics exhibited the exhibition "La Città Aperta" in Berlin and Milan. Labics has received several international awards and recognitions; his work is published in major national and international journals. She has also earned a degree in Architecture from ESA, École Spéciale d’Architecture, Paris. She has done didactic activities at the Institute of History of Art at the Faculty of Letters and Arts and at Industrial Design Department ITACA at La Sapienza University in Rome. She has curated four “Special Projects” at the VII Mostra Internazionale di Architettura di Venezia, Less Aesthetics, More Ethics in 2000: Jean Prouvè, Jean Maneval, the Peace Pavilion and Architecture of Spaces, and the Contemporary Art section. She has worked with Massimiliano Fuksas in 1985 and has been director in charge of “Fuksas Design” since 1997. In 2002 she was decorated Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française From 2014 to 2015 he was the author of the Design column in the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”. From January 1st , 2020, Doriana Fuksas was awarded the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Légion d’Honneur Française. A fire erupted at the Biratnagar Jute Mills, located in Biratnagar, on Tuesday night, resulting in an estimated property loss of approximately Rs 2 million. Morang Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Kumar Dahal reported that the cause of the fire remains undetermined. However, police sources speculate the possibility of deliberate arson, citing the absence of any potential electrical faults in the area where the fire originated. The fire was brought under control around 1 AM on Wednesday, following collaborative efforts involving the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, local residents, and the fire brigade of Biratnagar Metropolitan City. The government had recently planned to revive long-closed industries and one of them is Biratnagar Jute Mills. Notably, the Birla Group, a leading Indian conglomerate, expressed interest in the mill and conducted a survey of the mill's facilities.
