Gridwork in the rain 🌧 I am so proud of my ponies today! I pulled them out of the field to have a little go at some gridwork today which we haven’t done in god knows how long!! Jemmy tried her absolute heart out with both me and mum, and jumped beautifully! She was dying to get at the jumps and speeding through the grid like a little pro! For Caspar we put the grid down to poles with a little tiny cross pole in the middle and his attitude just wowed me! Schooling Jemmy 🍊 Today me and mum headed out on what was supposed to be a two hour hack, but ended up being exactly twelve minutes as we quickly realised Caspar had a loose shoe 😭 We made good use of the time though and came back to the field to play with Jem! Stirrup-less 🏇 On Wednesday I had a little stirrupless play on Jem in the school, working on my virtual lesson from Judith Barker! The aim was to do a rising trot with no stirrups which I think I actually managed really well! Looking back at the videos I definitely needed Jem to have a bit more impulsion but it was quite comfortable really!! Then at the end me and Jemmy had a couple canters! @judithbarkereventing Showjumping Clinic 🏇 Well today has been so much fun! I hacked Jem to Lime Kiln for a showjumping clinic this morning, and on the way up there I was not feeling it 🥵 the weather was awful, Jem was completely wired, as she hates hacking alone, and especially in wind and rain! She was being so silly and planting her feet because she didn’t want to go, but I persevered and we made it! I sat and watched a little bit of the lesson before mine and to be honest it made me feel a bit sick 😂 everyone was jumping so well, and over fillers and everything, it just made me so nervous! Then when their lesson ended and mine started, all that anxiety disappeared! We started off with an exercise over a pole, prepping, then the pole became a cross pole, then a decent sized straight! I think working up to everything just made the fears melt away, and I rode the most confidently I ever have! We then incorporated parts of the course in sections of four to six jumps and Jem was flying! We jumped wiggly planks and fillers all set at 60/70cm, I just couldn’t believe it! The only mishap we had was at an oxer, which I said at the beginning was our weakness! We just both bottled it twice so we ended up jumping a sort of half oxer (last pic) but we made it over and in good fashion! 🥰 The hack home seemed to go much quicker, and we were back before we knew it, dismounting was a bit tricky though after spending just shy of four hours on Jem! Luckily she’s hunt fit so jogged home without a problem! 🏇 So so over the moon with this little mare, gutted I didn’t have anyone on the ground to video as she was bloody brilliant! Another cross country photo because why not 😅 Jem always gives me such a good feeling cantering up and down steps! I just need to remember to give her a bit more rein on the up, but that’s on me! I’ve been trying to teach myself to have more of a release over jumps recently as I had made myself such a defensive position back when Jem used to refuse a lot! I’ve booked a SJ clinic for next month with Jem which is very exciting, as we’ve not ever done one before and I really want to work on jumping and my position and everything so that I’m ready when Caspar starts jumping again! The best day cross country schooling at @blackwater_farm 🖤 Today we went cross country schooling with @joacton, @vanessawallet and @sammii_ward! I haven’t been to Blackwater in nearly two years as last time we could barely get over anything but then later found out Jem’s behaviour was due to saddle issues not fear! This time, she flew everything, there wasn’t anything we tried that we couldn’t get over! 🏇 we still needed the confidence of a lead for most of them but as long as she’s going over them I’m more than happy! Hello 2022… This morning I headed out for a little hack on Jem with @vanessawallet and Claude! All was all going swimmingly until the very last canter, where she tried to cut the corner to catch up with her Claude, he slipped in front, wheel spun and kicked up a cloud of leaves 🍃 well that was that, Jem went left and I went right, the new sticky seat saver and sticky bum jods had no chance of saving me… first fall of 2022 out of the way I suppose?! We walked home, embarrassed so I thought I’d take Caspar out instead, come back to find him with his rug hanging off, I suppose he didn’t fancy wearing it the conventional way? Anyway hacked him out and all was fine, got back safe and still on the horse this time 💪🏻 Then five minutes later I hear a scramble on the concrete, and turn around to see his shoe hanging off! Called a friend who brought a bag of tools and we managed to pry the whole thing off 🤞🏻 I suppose 2022 can only get better from here? So so proud of Jim jam today 🥲 * We entered the 50&60 as she’s never competed much higher and she hadn’t been out in over a year, to say I was blown away by her attitude today would be an understatement. She’s never really been that keen to a jump mainly due to her being so difficult to fit a saddle to and she was like a completely different horse today I am in awe. * She was so speedy and game, really taking me to the jumps although it meant we lacked brakes and steering so we had an unlucky rub in the 60 taking us out of the placings, and a very honest 6th in the 50 as I pulled her up to trot a few times just to sort out her legs and get us straight. I cannot thanks @eventingjem enough for letting me borrow her fabulous mare.
