Como buen fan de #JuegoDeTronos, he visitado #SanJuanDeGaztelugatxe, una ermita que se encuentra en una pequeña isla, ubicada en el País Vasco, que está unida gracias a un puente de piedra formado por 241 escaleras. 🎬 Pues este maravilloso lugar gustó tanto a los creadores de la serie que en la temporada 7 decidieron recrear aquí #Rocadragon, según explica @el_pais. Obviamente los efectos especiales dan forma al castillo, pero lo que es capaz de hacer la naturaleza y el ser humano es mucho más espectacular. 🤎 Miradores de la Ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. Esta ermita la visité de pequeña, cuando apenas nadie la conocía. Recuerdo que hacía mucho calor y no había ningún sitio para comprar agua en todo el sendero que hay que hacer hasta llegar a ella. Cuando volví ahora habían construido como 4 parkings, 2 restaurantes, estaba lleno todo y hay hasta que pedir cita para poder hacer el sendero hasta llegar a ella… por lo visto salió en la serie Juego de Tronos y ahora es una atracción turística que ha perdido mucho encanto. Así que como no sabíamos que había que pedir cita, solo la vimos desde los acantilados.

The island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe looks like it’s straight from a movie set, which is why episodes of Game of Thrones were filmed here. Some will recognize San Juan de Gaztelugatxe as the island fortress of “Dragonstone” from season 7 of Game of Thrones, however, its real name can be translated as “castle rock” from Basque (“gaztelu” = castle + “aitz” = rock). TV aside, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is simply beautiful and I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to visit! The island is located just off the shore on the Bay of Biscay and 35 km (22 miles) east from Bilbao. It is connected to the mainland by a man-made stone bridge. The bridge transitions into a narrow path with 241 steps that zigzag back and forth to the top. The stairs have even been recognized as one of the world’s grandest staircases. Once at the top of the island, there is a small chapel dedicated to John the Baptist. According to legend, although not proven, it has been said that he set foot on the island. Per il mio giro in Van tra l’Europa occidentale/centrale , non avevo fatto un gran che di programmi sui #luoghidavisitare e quanto meno non pensavo che passando per i #paesibaschi rimanessi talmente colpito da trascorrerci più tempo del previsto , scombussolando così le date del mio arrivo a Copenaghen, perché è lì che mi ero prefissato di arrivare 😅 …bèh tornando ai #paisvasco , come vengono chiamati in lingua locale, mi imposi soltanto di andare a visitare l’eremo di #sanjuandegaztelugatxe , farmi tutta la scalinata per scattare qualche #foto e poi ripartire per raggiungere la Normandia, ai me le cose non sono andate proprio così 😅, a Gatzelugatxe mi sono fermato fino a notte fonda visto che il #tramontosulmare mi ha trattenuto più del previsto e poi mentre viaggiavo di notte non so per qualche strana combinazione mi sono fatto incuriosire dal paesino di #ondarroa , forse per via dell’illuminazione del fiume che circonda la cittadina con la #chiesa di St. Mary arroccata proprio sul #porticciolo , in ogni modo decisi di passarci la Notte e farmici un giretto il mattino seguente. La giornata non era bellissima, anzi pioveva ed era freddo 🥶, ma trascorrerci qualche ora mi ha fatto rendere conto quanto in quel #piccoloborgo ci fosse la stessa atmosfera che si percepisce un po’ in tutte le aree di #confine , per questo mi ha ricordato molto l’Alto Adige. Chiaramente, durante i miei #viaggi sono solito documentare con delle simpatiche storie su #istagram i luoghi che ho la fortuna di visitare , @evalese68 una volta che ha saputo che mi trovavo in zona #biscaglia , mi ha consigliato di visitare la città di #sansebastian …ed io ovviamente che ci sono andato 😆…allora non ho potuto far altro che godermi il suo pittoresco #lungomare , gli #scorci che regala mentre passeggi tra le sue vivaci vie e infine il #panorama che si gode dal punto in cui si erge la #statua di #gesù . Um zu der Einsiedelei zu gelangen, muss man, nachdem man die heute dammartig unterbaute Brücke überquert hat, 237 Stufen einer in den Fels gehauenen Treppe hinaufsteigen. Die Felsinsel wird von mehreren unterirdischen Gängen durchzogen und hat zahlreiche zum Teil ausgebaute Höhlen. Ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (País Vasco) - Datando del siglo X y situada en la cima de un islote atravesado, que se encuentra unido al territorio peninsular por un puente de dos arcos en un agreste lugar de la costa vizcaína, documentalmente en siglo XI por la carta de donación que de ella hicieron don Íñigo López (¿....?-1076), señor de Vizcaya, y su esposa Toda Ortiz (¿....?-¿....?) a los monjes del Monasterio de San Juan de la Peña, en Aragón, quedó bajo su dominio y protección la que por entonces era conocida con el nombre de Sancti Johannis de Castiello, o San Juan del Castillo. A través de un acceso por un estrecho camino que sale desde tierra firme y cruza sobre las rocas por un puente de piedra que nos conduce hasta la zona superior del islote de Gaztelugatxe, después de ascender 241 escalones, desde la Ermita de San Juan se puede contemplar una impresionante panorámica de la costa vasca y sus acantilados, un lugar que sirve de paraíso a las aves marinas que son muy abundantes en la zona gracias a la existencia de amplios espacios como la isla de Aqueche, donde el hecho de que únicamente pueda accederse por mar ha permitido que en ella puedan reproducirse y criar con absoluta tranquilidad la gaviota patiamarilla, el cormorán moñudo, la paloma bravía y el paíño común. Según la tradición, existe la creencia de que al subir a la Ermita de San Juan hay que tocar tres veces la campana para pedir un deseo o ahuyentar a los malos espíritus, siendo costumbre del lugar que los barcos de pesca del cercano puerto de Bermeo realicen varios giros a babor y estribor para que el santo les de suerte cuando salen a faenar en el Cantábrico, así como que las mujeres que sufren de algún problema de fertilidad acudan al lugar para remediarlo.
