If you are interested in presenting at the critique, please email [email protected] to sign up in addition to registering on Eventbrite. When: May 21, 6-8PM Location: SF Camerawork Jeremiah Barber is a San Francisco based artist who explores perception and communication through performance, sculpture, and speculative design. Central to his work are anticipated failures: constructed realities, knowledge gaps, and a future designed through our bodies, which are fundamentally unreliable. Barber has been commissioned for projects nationally and internationally, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Southern Exposure, and the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery. In 2015 he received the Eureka Fellowship from the Fleishhacker Foundation. In addition to his solo practice, Barber cofounded the artist collective 100 Days Action. Ebti, a rich and complicated show of photographic images at SF camerawork, opened on Friday. Actually, I think it opened earlier, but whatever. You have to look really closely at these images, to get a sense of how they are made. Better yet, visit the Gallery if you can. And I wish I understood why Siri always capitalizes the word Gallery. Artist in foreground, last picture, talking to friends and admirers. The opening was jampacked. #ebti #sfcamerawork

“Before there was a mascot for cowboys, Black folks were doing it. Before there was this white, rugged, Clint Eastwood or whomever, there were Black people doing this job. Originally, the goal was to get the story out there without it being sensationalized, and I just wanted to show the kind of everyday, mundane.” —Charles Lee (@ohhh_so_sirius) Photographer Charles Lee speaks with Emily Wilson (@pureewil) about his first solo exhibition at SF Camerawork (@sfcamerawork), "sweat+dirt". The two discuss the artist's unwavering commitment to documenting the Black experience in the American West, which has a cultural history that long predates the archetype of the Marlboro man. Lee's fascination with the subject began not long after his cousin, a Zydeco musician, introduced him to the Black Cowboy Parade in West Oakland. Read more on their conversation on the editorial section of Testudo!

@theinterval’s home is Fort Mason @fortmasoncenterforartsandculture Located in “Landmark building A”. The Fort, named after American military governor Richard Barnes Mason (01797 – 01850) is built on the shore of the San Francisco Bay, near Black Point, an area employed by the Native American Ohlone people as a boat launch. The land later became the private property of John C. Frémont, explorer of the western U.S., who spearheaded the conquest of California from Mexico. Over the 227+ years of modern use, the site has served as a refuge for people displaced by San Francisco’s great earthquake of 01906, a coastal defense site, a major military transport and shipping hub during wartime, a proposed site for a futuristic urban center, and most recently as an expanding cultural and exposition center. It’s a particularly special place, with open spaces, iconic views of the San Francisco bay, excellent restaurants and bars @greensrestaurant @radhaussf @theinterval @equatorcoffee, Art Galleries @sfcamerawork @hainesgallery @for_site, Art Supplies @flaxart, and Theater @batsimprov. The fort is also part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which includes Alcatraz Island, Muir Woods and the Marin Headlands.
