The Groovy Grill M/O Dog: 6.6/10. This was a blended source animal hot dog that was batch cooked over coals on a large pig cooker. There were slight char marks, however the temperature was lower than I’d like. Cooked to order or par-grilled then finished would have been much better. Bun: 5/10. Supportive, but light on flavor and close (or perhaps out) to being out of date. Toppings: 6/10. I chose to get this dog with mustard and onions! I was surprised by how finely chopped the onions were! I will say that some of the green bits were included and the onions had an overall “wet” texture. Jalapeno, cheese, mayo, slaw, pickles, ketchup, and chili are also available! Atmosphere: 8/10. I found The Groovy Grill right in the mix of all the food vendors at the @shakorihillsgrassroots! The Groovy Grill serves a small menu: Philly Steak, Burger, Hot Dog, Chips, Drinks. Shakori Hills hosts a spring and fall four day music fest each year! The grounds are beautiful and there is a good mix of music happening on the four different stages. I saw jam bands, bluegrass, soul, horns, and electronic artists playing. There were all kinds of art vendors, too! You can buy day passes as well as camping passes if you want a more immersive experience! Crave: 5/10. I’d probably get another dog. Overall: 30.6/50. Happy Shakori. I was impressed by the music and vibes at this festival! In addition to The Groovy Grill, there is a popular pizza joint, ice cream vendor, multiple beer tents, wine/cocktail bar, and two food trucks on the grounds! Shakori, you didn't disappoint. Personal growth and deepened interpersonal connections fueled by downpours of rain, trails of mud, volunteering as the parking fairy, and cicadas in various stages of life and death literally everywhere (including my morning coffee cup lol). Sunday in my last pair of dry clothes (Sky water got the rest, Earth water took my underwear via falling in a creek lol), I realized the constant discomfort had forced me to be present in ways I hadn't been before. Contact ecstatic dance with the Durham Living Arts Collective, the spontaneous collaborative effort as we came together to pour the rain out of the tea tent, experiencing a drum journey for the first time, camping with new friends, reconnecting with old ones...
